Auto Max- gear redline

Does anyone know what speed each gear redlines at?

The reason I'm asking is because I don't think my car is maximizing it's potential when I floor it? For example: when I floor it between 50 and 65mph, it downshifts to 3rd. I know that it will perform better if it shifted to 2nd. Occasionally it does shift to 2nd, but not often. Is there a special technique to get the car to shift quicker or to a way lower gear (without manually shifting).

I've got the Berk intake, but don't think that's causing the problem...is it? The car did seem to pull stronger when I first installed the intake. Maybe now I'm just used to the power so it seems to not pull as hard?

I don't want to always manually shift if I feel the urge to smoke someone. Just floor it and it's gone. I just need for it to shift into the right gear!

What regulates the gear selection and can it be modified to maximize it's selection.

BTW - this site ROCKS!!!

Your manual should have that information.

For the tranny to downshift to 2nd (if speed is right) you'll have to floor it. Since it depends on the speed you're at it may just stick to 3rd.

Your best bet is to slide the gate to 3rd before you floor it. That way the transmission won't have to search gears (e.g. longer) and will only have to d/shift one more time if it sees that 2nd is needed.

how do you manually shift down? when shiftying up you can just slide it up, but going down you have push the shift button, which i thought manually unengages the tranny, which can't be good in a race... do i have to push the button and drop it into 2nd, or do i just need to pull harder?

I can't answer your question. The 2k2's don't have buttons. You just literally slide the shifter where you want it to go.

manually shifting

I though you just pull the shifter down to second for the 2K-2K1 models. My wife's got a 98 accord and it will let you pull down from 4th-3rd, but will not let you pull down from 3rd to second.

Does it lock when you are in 3rd/4th?

I'm not entirely sure but Honda tranny's seems to have that lock from 3rd - 2nd (I had one before) but if you just floor it - it will sometimes d/shift to 2nd (again this is considering ur in the right speed)

I also read in another thread that it works better if I maually shift...wait 1 second...then floor it.

I've done this and it does work better, because it give the tranny time to engage the gear selected. Once I floored it and then d/shifted (2nd) and it took the tranny a few seconds to downshift because it was "locked" in 3rd.

On the 2k-2k1's you have to push the button to slide the shifter from D to 2. From 2-1 I think it just slides in without pushing the button. Ushifting from 1-2-D you don't have to push the button.

I just tried this and it is so much fun. at 60, the tranny will downshift to 2nd for you. at 70, it only goes to 3rd. however, if you're at 70, push the button, slide the lever down to 2, wait a half second and romp on it, they you have 2nd gear going wild until about 80, at which point you have to shift back up. but it would make a huge difference in a highway race.... plus, i can now control my car a lot more (wish i had a stick)...

I manually shift through the gears quite often and now it almost seems like the tranny's starting to slip. Is it from manually shifting too much, or just the crappy 2k-2k1 auto tranny that starts slipping on its own?
