Lets have an itelligent flame free post on how to launch the VQ3.5L...please..

It seems that my last thread (maxtor vs kloogy) didn't go over so well even though I posted in a humorous manner (sorry to offend kloogy), so I thought I'd try to redeem myself. I was doing a search to find material on launching and most of the threads say....'do a search'....kina catch-22. Anyway, I'd love to hear from everyone on how to launch the automatic and 6spd. I'd like to limit this to 2K2 discussion since the greater torque and hp might change the launch from a 3.0L.

My 6spd launch is right at 3Krpms with a quick, not dropped mind you, clutch release while holding the rpms at exactly 3K the entire times until you are moving and hooked up and than flooring it. I shift at 6700 indicated on the tach on the 1-2, an indicated 6400 on the 2-3, and an indicated 6400 on the 3-4.

I have a good post for that. I raced leftcoast, he has a 6 speed. He beat me by 2 cars. he had a frankencar, and a caatmann exhaust, I only had a powertech muffler, which equals no HP ! His car kicks A$$ ! So thats a comparison. We are going to the track this weekend. We will post our Numbers. I now have a Frnkencar, and a custom cat back !

I pretty mutch launch the same way as you but more like at 2800 RPM. I shift at 6800 rpm from 1-3 gear. According to my dynos my car makes peak power up to 6350 and the tach is about 400-500 RPM to fast, so..

You should be able to break 13's and 100+ trap with a 2.1

What were the conditions when you ran Emax? When I ran the 14.2 stock it was in the upper 50s with VERY low humidity and a high pressure....i.e. ideal. With my intake and wheels/tires I hit 14.4s all day at around 2mph slower. The temp was around 87 with about 85% humidity. Our engines really react to temp....good or bad.

Kloogy, that seems to be pretty good since the 6spd had an intake and exhaust. When Daniel ran his 14.3 in Montgomery he had just intake and exhaust. Ofcourese, he ran in freezing temps which dropped his time alot. I'm sure you'll be at least in the high 14s, if not mid 14s with your mods.

Yeah, I had the same question about launching my 6-speed. If I give too much gas in first I spin pretty bad. The tires have something to do with it too. Potenzas simply don't grip.

I usually get the best launch at like say 2000 rpms, I slip the clutch a little and I soon as tires hook up, I stomp on the gas. If I stomp on the gas too early, I will just spin through the first gear.

I wonder how the guys with HLSD are doing. Does it make launching the car easier, better?

Dont you mean NAWS???????? Yeah, you'll need at least tow bottles, and make sure you have steering wheel mounted actuators. That'll increase the flow, yeah.

Seriously though, I'd stay with bolt ons right now. I too am impatient waiting for at least a freaking Y-pipe, but I want my times to be totally n/a. Or that is until Stillen releases a s/c for us.

I tried launching at 4000 an 4500 a few times. That put me in the high 14s....... . It seems that launching beyond 3K causes a) too much wheel spin and b doesn't utilize the cars low end torque.

I dun understand one thing...obviously Maxtor just wants attention and wants to be known. what's the point of keeping giving what he really wants?

can we do something different from now on? just ignore him until he becomes somewhat useful and productive.

When it was cold (in Decemeber and January), I was brake-torquing to about 1100rpms. When it got warmer, I didn't think that the temp would have affected the times so much, so I started experimenting with different launch techniques. I tried brake torquing to 1800rpms, and gradually flooring the car when traction was obtained. That only helped me get 14.5's again - still 2 tenths off the colder times. Now with this new launching technique, I can't wait until it gets colder again. I might be able to get a 14.1-14.2

Hope This Helps,
Daniel
