What's up with my Stillen FSTB???

After installing the Stillen strut brace, my first thought was "the ends are slotted--that bar's gonna move."

So, I marked the postition with a pencil and after 2 days of driving the bar had shifted about 3/8".

Is the bar supposed to move back and forth during normal driving? It seems solid when pulling on it by hand. I torqued the bolts properly.

I talked to a guy at stillen, but he didn't have a clue.

Any ideas?

make sure you have the length of the bar adjusted for the proper length.

Yeah, was thinking about the same thing, that the bar might move a little bit when cornering. I am planing to install some extra bolts or something in that empty space there.

Yeah, I noticed that too. But I just centered my bar and torqued it down there. Have you noticed your driver's side windshield squirter hose being blocked from the FSTB hitting up against the heat shield under the hood? It's been a problem for me.

Mediocre design - appearance first, function second, profit maximized. Tighten the hell out of the pinch bolts and check regularly. I'm looking into getting a star washer inbetween after the aluminum is a little distorted.

I kind of the same problem as you, but the heat shield is also slightly hitting up against the fstb.

what settings did you guys torque your bar at? Mine doesn't move.

Just to be clear, are you talking about the new Stillen two-piece bar that attaches to the firewall? (or so it appears from the picture in the catalog.)

I was in the market to soon buy a FSTB,and Stillen was one of my choices. Is it better to go with the one from Nissan (www.courtestynissan.com)? Does that one have these problems?

The Courtesy is a better design than the Stillen and much less expensive. The only problem with it is that the chrome plated nut and bolt are 1 time use only - the nut self locks so well that when you try to undo it the bolt breaks - easy fix.
