I don't think it's a secret anymore. 2003 models will have no change from 2002 except for a titanium, interior cosmetic change. There have been threads on this. I personally read the 2003 specs from the dealer catalog.

I have heard (from dealers) that the major change is going to be for 2004. I certainly hope it looks like the car on your posts. Looks nice!!

GREAT JOB!

Cool pics. There is definitely some camoflage(sp?) happening there. (nose, c-pillar, tail lights.) It looks BIG! I'm gonna have to stare at them for a while. Thanks.

Hmmm, I was thinking, I heard that the next maxima will be based on the Altima platform. So I am wondering if this is true, that could mean that the next maxima won't be any bigger than the altima right? Or it could be but not by much or by how much some people fear it will be right?

Re: 2003 pics from Brian

I believe the next generation Maxima won't come around until model year 2004, but those pictures you got could very well be a disguised '04 Maxima. Good work!

Regarding its size, the "6th generation" is reportedly moving up to full-size, making it bigger than our current generation Maxima and even the current Altima. It'll be built on the current Altima platform and will most likely have the ole VQ engine. A V8 would be nice (Q45's VK, anywone? ), but I doubt it'll have that.

Oh, by the way, www.freshalloy.com posted those spy pics of yours on their site or in their message forum. Again, good work.

In the first year that the 5th gen max came out, I had read an article on it in some auto magazine (don't really remember which, I can look for it though), and it had given a glimpse at what nissan was already looking at for the 6th gen, and it mentioned the possibility of an optional V8. Who knows, but that would definitely be sweet!!

Hey vqmax1. You should be glad you live in RI and not down south. That super black Max with the black leather interior has got to be one hot car in the summer. You might want to avoid the shorts on those hot days.

I'm pretty sure this is the 2004 Max. The 2003 will only have cosmetic changes in a "Platinum Edition".

I also think it favors an Altima. If you were to take that side view picture and chop it right before the roof comes down to meet the rear quarter panel/trunk area, it definitely has the current Altima lines. But, since it looks camo'd, who truly knows!

I personally think its quite ugly. I like the 5th gen body style better. It looks like the Q45, G35, Altima all in one!

Man...I hope that car isn't real. I will be disappointed if it is the new 6th gen max. Sad thing will be, that it will no longer be a family sports sedan.

Fellows, fellows, fellows. You guys referred me to nissannews.com many months ago. They posted news back then that the new Max will be based on the Altima platform, fwd, VQ-V6(probably some variation of the 3.5), made in the same production line as an Altima. Everything, together with those pictures seems to confirm that the new Max is a biggie sized Altima(yuck, nasty, nasty, nasty). Looks like we'll either have to look at the G35 Coupe, or a good deal on a 2K2 Max.

Be careful...

Be careful judging the next gen Max by what you see in those pictures. That car is disguised pretty well. You get the overall shape and size, but the details, especially the front and back, are pretty hidden. The jury is still out, IMHO.

I agree that the car has cues form the altima or G35 but how do you know for sure that it is the next Maxima? I agree with dblrr900 this particular car is ugly and I agree with GMAN01SE to early to tell.

Amen to that, if this is truly the new 2K4 Max, then my love for the Maxima stops at 5th gen.

I don't like how it looks in the photos either but you can't judge a book "under" the cover..... My nissan dealer also said that the big change is in 2K4.. He also said its going to have be rear wheel drive and be a V8 with more horses.. I hope it looks a lot better than the pics...

Yeah I like the S4 also, but its too small for me. If I don't like the 2K4 I'm thinking about getting a GS430....

Nissan just had the new product release to dealers in Michigan. The car is a 2k4 but will be released in March/April 2k3 as new model. Car is supposed to have 3.5 still but boosted to around 280hp. Could not get true info on body....but comments from friend (dealer) say its based on Infiniti G35 platform with extended body. That means RWD. It will look similar Altima and these spy shots seem to show that everything the dealer stated was true. No pictures or pamphlets were released. Looks like it could be the Maxima!

Does it look in the pictures that there maybe enough room to lower the rear windows all the way down?

I Bet...

AT LEAST half of you guys are going to talk about trading in your Max for this new one! Mark my words...

Archive this post...

Most of us have this 'first on the block' mentality, so we're going to want to be the 'first on the block' to have it.

By the way, what I'm getting from most of you is that the Maxima looks better than the Altima. If you think that, then ... well... NEVER MIND...

You all can keep your 2K-2K2 Max... That means I'll be at the top of the list to get my 2K4!

Thank goodness I won't have to look at your FUKCUGLY rear ends anymore when I blow past ya'll with my 300 HP V8!

Ha Ha... Good catch. I have done 140+ in a suped Civic and I sure as hell was wearing mine, crap I think I was reaching over for the passenger side belt too.

I am kinda wondering if this show of speed was really on a dyno... Not baggin, just a thought.

that looks EXACTLY like an altima that was disguised a lot...take off the extra panels and stuff and I bet you have a car that is quite similar to the altima......
...manufacturers are smart these days to camelflauge their cars well, they even make them look like other cars.....

I totally agree with Phattyaltnatl

Personally I love the way the new altima looks, and would gladly accept a new MAX based on the altima frame. I am very excited by the thought of it being RWD, simply salivating over the possibilities... But without a doubt it MUST have the V* as an option... with at least 300hp!

I'm pretty sure it's a g35, some guy who parks in the same lot as me @ work drives one. I see it everyday and the resemblence is uncanny with the exception that the front looks molded. You can tell by the shape of the windows, especially the rear quarter.
