Are there any major differences between 2K and 01 SEs
I am getting ready to buy and didn't know if I should get a year end close out, or pay a couple of grand more for a 2001. Is there any difference between the two? I am ready to get out of my 3rd Gen. Thanks Fellas.
Couple things
that may or may not bother you.
The 2K1 will have all of the TSB repairs already done such as TCM issue, the trunk scratchs TSB etc....
The other change besides the auto dim and the radio controls on the wheel is the 2K1 does not have the "meatier" bumps at the 10 and 2 position.....I like the thicker grips there but may or may not be an issue for you...if I go for 2K1 5spd that one thing would not keep me from buying

The biggest difference between the 2000 SE and 2001 Ann Ed SE is that the 2001 has a limited slip differential. Very much worth getting on a high-HP, light FWD cars like the Maxima that needs every bit of help in the traction department.
The added 5 HP is mostly marketing hype. Certainly nothing to get excited about.
The 2001 AE also has the nice interior touches like perforated leather seats, aluminum touches on the center console and shifter, and the body kit.
For a few 1000 more, I think the AE is worth it.

hey kev those few thousand are a lot... it changes the sticker from a fully loaded SE at $28000 to AE at $33000-$34000
its nice and all but i feel it triggers 2 different markets... because at that price you go against the the I30
3.2Tl 3.2CL-S and a list of other cars...
but in regards to the differences in 2000 and 2001 SE is really only the autodim and the radio controls on the steering wheel... thats about it...
no biggie... i took the year-end close out 2000 model... but i dont know if you could find them anymore..
Beisdes the stering wheel controls (which are awesome) and the mirror (which is also cool) they also added "Active Head Restraints" which actually move up and forward toward your head "if" you get rear-ended. Same seat design as far as looks, but the inside is better. For 01, they also changed the front air bags to "dual stage" meaning at a front crash under 30, the bag deploys less then a crash over 30. Ummm, I think I want to upgrade!

Try The 01 version...because
Thier have been certain engine tweaking done to make the engine a little more smoove, an like one of the gentleman mention certain TSB issues have been resolved. It's just like new software. You wait a little while after the major product launch so engineers can workout certain bugs from the system...get the drift??

It's a nice car... but doesn't warrent the price (in my opinion). (I'd take a decked out SE anyday, and pocket the difference)
My dealer was (according to them), the first ones on the East Coast to have one for sale.... I talked with the manager (who got promoted to that position shortly after selling me my max), and he said they got around $35k for it.. (Nissan MSRP was at least 4-5 grand less).. According to him, some rapper from NY bought it... (Never heard of him, and sorry, but the name didn't stick)
Oh well...
