Got my AE Parts Yesterday
I am so pumped. Yesterday from Southpoint, I got the following items:
My Auto Dim Mirror
My Automatic AE shifter
One of the pedals (brake only).
Gonna do a search on removing the automatic shifter so I can try that this weekend.
But the brake pedal is a b**ch to get on. It is basically the carbon fiber or aluminum or whatever on the rubber piece that goes around your brake pedal. But because it is carbon fiber or whatever, it isn't flexible enough to stretch around the pedal. It's tough.
Anyway, I am getting a digital cam for Christmas and can post pics after that.
Can't wait until this weekend although the instructions for the mirror look difficult - but maybe I'm jsut being paranoid.

Do you know if the dealers are willing to install the auto dim mirror or not?
Thanks

Close - the shift know is $86.00
The auto dim is $181.25 before shipping
The brake pedal was $17 and some change.
I only got the one because the gas pedal is on back order. I had Dave Burnette go ahead and send it because I wanted to see what it looked like. I still can't get it on.
When I spoke with Dave Burnette this morning, he said for the know and the mirror and the pedals, I think he ordered enough for 12 cars. His phone number is 888-254-6060.

Not sure, but I don't see why not

I don't know for sure. It's a genuine Nissan part so I don't know why they wouldn't.
Taking the advice of some of the wise people on this forum, I plan to do the wiring myself and having a professional put the mirror on the winshield. Although the wiring instructions look complicated, Dave Burnette said it's really no problem. But I am going to pay $20 or something like that to have the mirror removed and the new one put on by a professional. I don't want to risk breaking the windshield and having to take care of that repair myself.
Thanks

Isn't there a "clip" you pop out to detach the mirror from the pedestal it is mounted on to the window? Doesn't the ESM saying something about that? Or, do you have to completely remove everything from the windshield and start over?
Hey mdeal & all- There's a little plate glued to the windshield that the mirror attaches to. The auto-dim mirror attaches in exactly the same way as the stock mirror. There's a set screw (TORX, I think) that you undo to remove/install the mirror. BTW, I ordered up lots of these, mirrors, I've got plenty ready to go!

It sounds easy, and in some instances, it probably slides right off. The problem is that many times the mirror is on there REALLY tight, and that windshield shatters a lot more easily than you think. Mine shattered with very little pressure (I was shocked how little). When the guy replaced the glass, for sport I asked him to remove the old mirror from the mount. It was hard even for him to get it off (he ended up needing a screwdriver and a hammer to get it off). He also told me he replaces a lot of windshields that way. He even admitted that he shattered a windshield once trying to get one off.
If you have experience doing this, go for it. But if I were doing it over again, I'd let the guy with the experience give it a go before I'd go there again... especially if you find a place that will guarantee the work -- then if he breaks your window, he eats the new windshield and not you.
You can save $$ and do the wiring easily.. just run the enclosed cable along the a-pillar and down to the fuse box. All you need is to ground one wire and tap a wire that is hot with the ignition is turned on (you can follow the cigarette lighter wire from the box -- just pick the wire that's after the fuse). If anyone needs the wire color, I'll tell you which one I tapped.
You can also save a few bucks by getting the mirror without the Nissan box (the Nissan mirror I saw was made by Gentek). I picked mine up from lovecars.com for $99).
If anyone needs it, I'll post more detailed instructions on the wiring. For $99 or $180, the mirror's worth it, IMHO... especially when those SUVs pull up behind you!

Paul (or anyone else)...how hard is it to install the AE shifter?
Funny you should ask

My error
I corrected it in my post above, but the AE Shifter **** for the automatic transmission is $86 before shipping - not $84. The list price according to Dave and according to my dealer is over $100 so it's still a great deal at $2 more.
Sorry if I confused anyone.
