after frequent rotations, I remove the tire when changing oil, and the countless other times I've jacked the car up, I just felt my emergency jack was getting tired. After seeing a max fall off of one last week, I decided to grab one of these.

Price is right, its pretty beefy, is actually not much larger than the OEM (but its a bit wider with the lever and hydraulic part). Still, in its box, it can be left in the trunk without taking up much space.. Oh and its 1/100th of the effort to get your car up.

 

Not a bad price. Definitely worth not having to mess with the crappy OEM one.

 

This is a great idea. The standard jack is so flimsy I can't believe it is actually provided by the manufacturer for emergencies.

 

RIP OFF! Go pick up the two ton Hydraulic one at Checker or Pep Boys for 15.99. Works AWESOME. This scissor jack is also available at Wal Mart for $14.99.

 

I dont know about that. The walmart here doesnt have it. Yeah, they have the same 2 ton that Pep Boys has for $15 as well. I was at Pep Boys today and didnt see anything like this jack. But I do have the 2 ton floor jack and it doesnt fit the channels on the side of the car like this scissor jack does. Also, these cheap $15 floor jacks dont have replaceable cups to fit whatever you are jacking (like the $40 ones)

Whether you pay $26 or $15, those that frequently use the OEM jack should look for something like this.. I think ChimpDJ broke his jack, and I saw a max fall last weekend. It was all the convincing I needed.

 

Your emergency jack is just that... for emergencies. As you found they can't take repeated use. BUT, one advantage it has over hydraulic jacks is they don't have seals to leak.

If this jack develops a leaky seal, will it slowly lower while you are trying to change a flat on a busy freeway, with no jackstands? That would be annoying I'm sure!

My suggestion: leave your emergency jack in the trunk for emergencies and get a genuine floor jack for servicing. AND... most important... some jack stands!
