Automatic Temp Control???

Has anyone tried to install the ATC option in a ride that doesn't have leather?

Any thoughts on what might be involved in such a project?

I didn't opt for the leather, but really like the ATC feature...

Same here, I have the cloth, and although I hate leather, I almost got it just for the ATC unit. I wonder as well, I assume it has the same wiring in the back, probably just a switchout? Anyone?

I'm no help on how hard the project would be...

But... let me ease you're mind a little:

The ACC is not that big of a deal. I've got it and sometimes I wish I didn't! It actually can get annoying! Even when it's already maintained a ideal temp, it still blows hard sometimes (granted at that same temperature). I would rather have it blow less when obtained desired temp's. It does it's job, but definately not perfectly. The NAV system came w/ ACC, but to be honest, I don't think I would of gotten it, had I a choice.

Just my opinion...

????

I'm not sure about how much trouble it would be to install, but I love mine. BTW, mine never blows too hard...

I asked some people over at Tustin Nissan about this when i was scavenging prices for the ATC parts.

According to them, they can give the parts out at very good prices but would need a lot of components to swap out the regular AC controls. (e.g. somewhere to the point of - "not worth the hassle"). However, i personally would like to know if there is an easy way. An ATC would be nice if the price/effort is worth it.

This definitely seems like a feature worth pursuing. Anyone here work at a Nissan dealership that might be able to find the answers? I'll do my poking around. Lets keep this thread alive...

I would think that the major parts needed would just be the ACC unit (already has the computer to control it), and the temperature sensor. Maybe even need the temperature sensor for the outside (ambient)? I'm not sure if the non ACC equipped Max's have the ambient temperature reading. But that would be the major parts...other than that I cannot see what else you would need???

Another note - when a solution is figured out, how about part numbers, and price estimates??? This would be really cool!

Might be onto something here... these are the parts I found on aaanissanparts.com

Part: Cost:
Dash Control Unit, Auto Control $291.36
In-car Sensor $27.39
Thermostatic Switch $33.67
Ambient Temp Sensor $20.65
Sunload Sensor $29.45

Final Cost: $402.52

Installation instructions??? Sensor placement??? Might need a sample car to follow.

Now, these parts come from the 2000 Maxima parts directory, don't know if any of it is the same, but they don't list anything for the 2002's.

If anyone has anything to contribute, please do so.

There is one difference that I've noticed just between the 2k and the 2k1. On the 2000, the temperature range goes from 65 to 85, and on the 2k1 it goes from 60 to 90. So you might wanna go after the 2k1 parts (or at least the dash control unit) vs. the 2k parts.

So has anybody tried (successfully or unsuccessfully) to do this on any thing from an 00-01 or 02-03?? Seems like it should be doable?

Ditto. I have it and thought it would be cool but it is really annyoying. It automatically turns on the A/C when you defrost the windshield and have to go through a series of button presses to make it stop using the A/C. I would have been happy with the regular controls.

Think of it as a transmission for your tempurature. How many people wish they had a 6 speed after buying an automatic?

My point..make sure you REALLY want it if you are going to go through the trouble.
