Max at the drags tonight - 14.4 best

Took the Jetta down to the drags for some baseline runs before getting a chip next week (15.3 for those that care-1,200 miles on the car and still learning how to finesse a stick). Hooked up with another Jetta driver and a Maxima driver. The Max was a 2k2 6speed. Don't know his first run but his second was a 14.8. He was shooting for a 14.4 when on his last run, he got the 14.4.h

The Max's are doing well
No mods. Bone stock, full interior, full spare etc. Have to lower the 2.5 60' times

The biggest problem on speeds is the Traction. I saw some Hoosier Drag Radials today, not sure if they are new. They were 225/45's or 50's, I dont remember. They were 17's so these would help for sure. Im certain 14.00 flat would be easy with drag radials ...

Slicks are suppose to take off up to 1 sec. So its possible!

Just as an example. I ran a 13.5 in my stang on 255/50's.... I put 275/50 Drag Radials and ran a 12.6 ... Of course I broke my motor mounts... ..but look at the drop in ET ! On a FWD, it should be no harm....Drag radials will make a night and day difference, and you can use them on the street legally !

Putting a good set of street slicks on the Maxima's such as the new
BFG Gforce's or Nitto555r's would probably drop at least .5 seconds
from the 1/4 with cars who previously had those POS stock rubber bands. I'm getting some K1's with some BFG's this summer and deflating the tire to around 20 psi and I fully plan to rip some 13s with my K@N drop in.

This month's SCC magazine had a review of three tires and pitted the BFG Gforce slicks against a sticky street tire and a full tube slick. It was a good article and you should read it if you're going to get serious about racing. It would also help to have some stiff shocks and springs on the back of the car so it wouldn't lift at the line. I'm willing to bet with the right suspension/tire setup, you could see a 6spd Max with only intake run a 13.5.

There was a guy there with a Jetta also. He runs 14.4's or thereabouts with small diameter slicks. Last night he came with street tires and could only muster a 15.0. He said he broke his tranny and motor mounts a few times as a result of the slicks. So yes, 13's are possible with a Max with just slicks.

Well, my Mustang has the same bolt pattern as the Max, and I have a set of 15" wheels with some ET Streets on them, I'll keep you posted, if they fit under the fenders, I'll try them.
