question about tweeter replacement...
question about tweeter replacement...
i have my tweeters currently drilled into the sailplane behind my side mirror, but i regret it now and want them in the a pillar. i didnt put them in the a pillar because of the wiring connector between the door and kickpanel.
my x-over is in the door. how do i wire the front speakers (using the factory wires) to the factory location and where should i put the crossover.

One thing that I should tell you is that I have a pair of JL 6.5 components and in the directions it does not recommend mounting the x-overs in the doors. I mounted one underneath the drivers side and the other one behind the passenger kick panel. This should make things easier for these next steps. Oh and I don't have the stock head unit. Disconnect the speakers from factory harness and install your new 6.5s into the door. Plug the speaker wire into the stock harness. Next mount your x-overs. Then you mount your new tweets in the a-pillar or custom kick panel and run the tweeter wire to x-over. My tweets are in the a-pillar. Hook up a stereo wiring harness to the stock harness (there are two plugs that come out of the stock head unit). Wire the corresponding power wires, ground wires, and remote wires. Instead of wiring the corresponding left/right speaker wires (harness) to left/right speaker wires (head unit), run the left/right side speaker wires coming from the stereo harness to the x-overs speaker inputs. From the x-overs input connections run wire to the head units left/right speaker wires. This is the method that i used to wire my componet set to the alpine I have. It's not amplified yet but I did not have to drill holes to bypass the multipin connector by the door which makes it hard to run your own speaker wires. And I did not have to cut any of the wires or plugs in the car. If you need visual aids let me know and I will draw it up for you and post it.

my alpine components are in my door, both xover, mid, and tweeters. Are you saying i gotta take out my xover, and move em under my dash somewhere?
thank yew dude... hmm i wanna make my car more stock looking.. having em in the sail panels are sorta ghetto and asking for trouble...
now i gotta figure out how to make my pioneer 840mp less bling bling looking...

Ok then I will try to draw one up and either scan it or get my digital camera to upload it and hopefully it will help you out some. If it doesn't let me know.
ok just to confirm this, tweets, mids, and x-overs are mounted in the door? No tweeters in the a-pillar (stock location)? If so how did you mount your tweeters in the door? Did you drill a hole to flush mount the tweeters? Cause if you did then maybe you don't need to move anything? I had to mount my x-overs under the dash somewhere because that was the only way I could do it. How would I run a wire from the tweets to the x-over if the x-over was mounted in the door and the tweeters in the a-pillar? I saw do way since there is a multi pin connector my the door (at one end of the rubber boot). But if you have everything there maybe the wiring scheme will be diffrent. Pending your response I will then draw the wiring scheme for you. If you are contemplating moving the tweeters to the a-pillar then things are going to change a bit and thus you might have to move the x-overs somewhere in the cabin (trunk, under the seats, under the dash
.)

The crossover was connected to the 6.5 in the front door, then the Component 6.5 was put in the stock location, and the tweeter was run up to the sail panel behind the side mirror. there, it was drilled and installed.
