Hello from new forum user

Just wanna say Hello from a new member and get myself oriented with posting junk.

Welcome to the org and congrats on a great car--the best way to quickly get any questions answered is to use the search function first--happy modding

The "modding bug" is when you have a hard time deciding whether to spend your money on food or on an exhaust, intake, UDP, etc. for you car.

I am new as well. This is an awesome place to get information about anything that can be done to a Maxima. Everyone in here is great. There aren't even a ton of Trolls that come in here flaming maxima's and the owners! Enjoy your car. More details about it please.

UDP = underdrive pulley

what does an underdrive pulley do?

Unorthodox Racing [is a shop] currently manufactures the underdrive pulley for 3rd, 4th, and 5th generations. the underdrive pulley is a replacement crank pulley on the maxima. the crank pulley drives the accessories on the car, such as A/C and alternator. the underdrive pulley is smaller and lighter than the stock unit. because it is smaller and lighter, less energy (horsepower), is used to turn the pulley. the underdrive pulley *does not* produce horsepower -- it simply frees up some horsepower that was being used to drive the stock pulley.

you n00bies, there is valuable information here: https://maxima.org/maxfaqs/index.shtml. here you can read about all "mods" or modifications that you can make to your car to better its performance and looks. theres information here that tells you what you can buy to increase your cars hp, improve its handling, etc.

the mod bug is simply a catch phrase made up to describe the "infection" that some car enthusiasts get. pretty much its an almost uncontrollable urge to buy parts for your car. food vs car is really an exaggeration (i hope).

btw, i believe one of the most valuable parts of the org is the group deals forum. a group buy is organized when an org member contacts a vendor and strikes up an agreement on a discounted price when an X number of org members want in. many times even the vendor themselves chooses to offer a product at a discounted price on the org. many times the "gd" is dependant on the # of people that are interested.

for example, there is a group deal going on right now, actually, it closes today at 2pm EST / 5pm Pacific time! it's for maxspeed performance springs! these springs replace your stock springs and lower your car 1.7 inches in the front and 1.5 inches in the back... and have been reported by many members to settle even more afterwards. this is a nice drop and the ride is comparable to a stock SE. the new springs are an upgrade to the stock suspension, improving handling!

as you continue to lurk on the org you will discover that springs are usually pretty costly; around $300. maxspeed springs are around $150 retail and right now the groupdeal is $85 + shipping to your zipcode when 10 or more buyers are committed. this is a great deal for a great product, dont you think? keep in mind thought that groupdeals dont last forever and sometimes it takes weeks or even months for a similar groupdeal to be organized. its been 3 months or so since the last maxspeed springs groupdeal and i missed out on that one... not on this one though!

i hope ive helped to clear some things up for you guys.

enjoy.

depends on the kit. some are attached to your existing body while others are a direct replacement.

oh, btw, i believe ground fx refer to neons that people stick under their cars. like from fast and the furious.

i'd recommend bolting them on, yes.
but some people use tape. not scotch tape, mind you.
