That sounds great, kloogy. Very muscular. And not a grain of rice in sight.

Now for the big question. Does it drone in the cabin at freeway speeds?

That does sound nice. But you also have the y-pipe and removed the stock resonator and added a glass-pack resonator, right?

Hmmm. I don't think a Y-pipe is available for the 2K2 yet. If kloogy had one, made a clip of it, and you listened to the clip at the same volume you listened to the one he just posted, you might be looking to purchase a new set of speakers tomorrow to replace the ones you just blew.

This guy I met in a shop in Cali said that about Japan-spec cars. I said "they don't bring them over because of emissions, right?" He said, "nope, because they're too dang loud".

No Y pipe..dont make one for 2K2...but as soon as its available, its going on, along with headers....Might have to change the muffler , if it's too loud.....I dont think there's any aftermarket exhaust that doesnt drone at about 60 mph...but its not bad at all...

Hey don't talk bad about the HKS, it's the muffler i'm getting!!

Seriously, the powertech sounds nice, but I'm a name-brand kind of guy, so I'll probably get the HKS anyways

Based on my experience, you probably won't have too much drone with your current muffler until you install your headers and y-pipe. At that point, you may find the drone overwhelming.

I'd suggest you hang on to your OEM rear section until you're done modding your exhaust system. That way you can reinstall it if you want to.

hehe, the HKS sounds good too, more of a deep "bass" tone. Powertech muffler definetly got some ring to it. But anyways, I'll still stick to my HKS.
btw, how much is the powertech muffler?

hehehe . . . under $100.00, right kloogy?

And what did that HKS rear section set you back, TaiwanMaxima?

Yup. You can also get a Magnaflow Stainless Steel muffler with dual tips installed for ~$125.00. It sounds pretty much the same as the Powertech.

Argh~ Feel likg bangin' my head against the trunk, hehe~ I would of bought one myself if I heard about it earlier. I spent about $350 for the HKS and 25 for installing it.

My point exactly, TaiwanMaxima. But perhaps your admission will help prevent others from spending money needlessly.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking the HKS rear section. It's a beautiful piece of equipment. It's just not worth what you paid for it. And there's not a single name brand muffler or catback system on the market that's worth what the manufacturer is asking for it.

BTW, Kloogy paid $90.00 for his Powertech Muffler, and that INCLUDED shipping.

true. I mean the HKS looks great and sounds good too, but it seems like the Powertech has alot of similiraties with the HKS (dual pipes, the sound, somewhat). Powertech could of SAVED me alot, and could of used the extra $$$ for other mods. How about performance gains? ANy noticeble differences?

I'll let kloogy respond to that. But a straight-through muffler is a straight-through muffler. They should all produce roughly equivalent performance gains.

Again, I hope others learn from your experience, TaiwanMaxima. You're providing an invaluable lesson for those smart enough to heed it.

i like the look of the muffler..it's got some huge tips on it too.. well, if i had to be an a$$hole and be picky about it..the muffler wouldn't work with the Stillen rear valence..it's just a little to wide..

As with everything else in life, it's a matter of priorities. My guess is that most people are driven by price vs performance. But that doesn't include everyone. And who am I to tell anyone that their priorities are wrong?

All I'm endeavoring to do is point out that numerous high-quality, aesthetically-pleasing, low-cost alternatives exist to name-brand mufflers and catback exhaust systems. If that makes me the bad guy, I'll take the heat.

I had an HKS cat-back exhuast on my Eclipse, and I got more compliments on the looks and sound than I could remember. The tip looked perfect on the car (a body shop asked me if it came stock) the sound didn't drone at 60, was deep and smooth at WOT and quiet at idle. It also had great power gains, didn't rust much and produced alot of power. Nothing wrong with HKS...

sounds sweet the only thing keeping me from this muffler is the huge tips and i prefer oval tips but all the magnaflows say it has a 2.25 inlet but don't we need a 2.5 inlet?

I don't think anyone here would argue that point, Jesse. It's only a question of whether the HKS is so much better than the competition that it's worth paying up to $300.00 more for one. The bottom line is, you could pay for a Y-pipe with the money you'd save purchasing a Powertech instead of an HKS.

Let's get real here, people. If you were modifying your exhaust system from scratch, all you had to spend was $400 to $500, and you had narrowed your choices down to an HKS rear section or a Powertech and a Y-pipe (assuming a Y-pipe was available for your car), how many of you would opt for the HKS?

Got my PowerTech installed on Friday. I got at least 5 compliments on the looks alone this weekend when I was out. Best $90 I ever spent on my car.

It took me about 2 days to get used to the 'drone' that is talked about. It happens around 2100-2800RPM. May be different for the 2K2 engines. Still sweet sound and looks
