That sounds great, kloogy. Very muscular. And not a grain of rice in sight.
Now for the big question. Does it drone in the cabin at freeway speeds?

No Y pipe..dont make one for 2K2...but as soon as its available, its going on, along with headers....Might have to change the muffler , if it's too loud.....I dont think there's any aftermarket exhaust that doesnt drone at about 60 mph...but its not bad at all...

Seriously, the powertech sounds nice, but I'm a name-brand kind of guy, so I'll probably get the HKS anyways

I'd suggest you hang on to your OEM rear section until you're done modding your exhaust system. That way you can reinstall it if you want to.

Yup. How about a Magnaflow Stainless Steel muffler with dual tips installed for $125.00? It sounds pretty much the same as the Powertech.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking the HKS rear section. It's a beautiful piece of equipment. It's just not worth what you paid for it. And there's not a single name brand muffler or catback system on the market that's worth what the manufacturer is asking for it.
BTW, Kloogy paid $90.00 for his Powertech Muffler, and that INCLUDED shipping.

My point exactly, TaiwanMaxima. But perhaps your admission will help prevent others from spending money needlessly.

Again, I hope others learn from your experience, TaiwanMaxima. You're providing an invaluable lesson for those smart enough to heed it.

I'll let kloogy respond to that. But a straight-through muffler is a straight-through muffler. They should all produce roughly equivalent performance gains.

All I'm endeavoring to do is point out that numerous high-quality, aesthetically-pleasing, low-cost alternatives exist to name-brand mufflers and catback exhaust systems. If that makes me the bad guy, I'll take the heat.

I had an HKS cat-back exhuast on my Eclipse, and I got more compliments on the looks and sound than I could remember. The tip looked perfect on the car (a body shop asked me if it came stock) the sound didn't drone at 60, was deep and smooth at WOT and quiet at idle. It also had great power gains, didn't rust much and produced alot of power. Nothing wrong with HKS...

Let's get real here, people. If you were modifying your exhaust system from scratch, all you had to spend was $400 to $500, and you had narrowed your choices down to an HKS rear section or a Powertech and a Y-pipe (assuming a Y-pipe was available for your car), how many of you would opt for the HKS?

It took me about 2 days to get used to the 'drone' that is talked about. It happens around 2100-2800RPM. May be different for the 2K2 engines. Still sweet sound and looks

The bottom line is, you could pay for a Y-pipe with the money you'd save by purchasing a Powertech instead of an HKS.
