01 Maxima AE
Is this a car worth holding on to. It is 5 speed and has 6000miles and has been garaged kept, Black on Black with every option possible. It has only been a year since I have had the car and I am starting to reget getting it and even thinking of selling it. Any words of advice? Any idea what it would go for?

what is wrong with you guys..i have an AE....i love it...i get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much attention.....i love how the car is luxurious and sporty....its fast...body kit....geeeez....what the hell.......i dont know why you want to sell it.......but anyway..it's your money.....holla

If it's paid for and you would lose anything get rid of it. Why keep something if you're not happy with it. I don't think it'll be a collectible because nissan didn't do anything speical to the AE but add 5 horses and a bodykit. Nissan is notorious for taking the half a$$ way out of things IMO.

perforated leather seats, accent trim (pedals, shifter), VLSD, bright wheel treatment, sill plates, special floor mats, anniversary keys...
and the bodykit and 227hp...

So, if you guys put 2K2 HIDs on your 2K1 AEs, does it not make them AEs anymore?? If I had a 2K1-AE, I'd definitely do that upgrade.
Anyways, the AEs are still unique, like the 99 SELs.

I would have to say...
in the strictest sense of the term...no, it would not be a true AE anymore. But then we are talking about the auto world definition of 'true' and 'original' not the world as a whole...
HID's on an AE (or any of the Max's) have 2 issues:
1. they are hideous, in any year
2. for a 2k or 2k1, it kind of makes like you a 2k2 wannabe, which is fine, but is not much different than ricers putting GTR stickers and the like on things

Guys you are not listening to me. Lets look at this from a different view by using the Altima. I can see the 3.5 Alti was an AE Altima more than the AE Maxima. For starters ton more HP that the base model Altima, second bigger wheel than all the models, third dual pipes which can't be duplicated. With that alone you can said I have a real Limited/AE car. I guess what I am trying to said is the AE Max is not set to far apart from the 2k1 se whereas the 3.5 Atli is a completely different car from the other models.
No it's not, or won't be. You'll be able to buy an Altima 3.5 this year, next year, etc, with the same exact options. What's so unique about that?

hey, could it have been a better AE Max? Sure.
Is it still unique? Definitely, even in light of other SE's. I have driven both (back when 2001's came out) and immediately went with having an AE shipped in from San Antonio to Houston. One MAJOR thing I hated about regular Max's but liked about the AE is the seating surface and comfort of the seating itself...perforated leather goes along way for comfort.

Its obvious that we have nothing productive to say that we start flaming our own family of cars....AE SE GXE GLE, c'mon, yes I will defend the AE because the bodykit is very clean and compliments the car very well. About the HID on a AE being ugly, I have to disagree 100% I have HID in my AE and they look great(had them on fogs too but blew). Now I think we need to get back on the topic that was originally stated. If thats ok??

1) you can duplicate almost ANY anniversary car/truck
2) it doesn't have to be that different, to compare to a great car compare corvette's 50th anniversary to the stock C5 (almost identical). Just be thankful they didn't throw on a bunch of decals like the camaro and firebird
3) i admit 5 hp was almost not worth mentioning, but hp on anniversaries usually come from intake/exhaust, which we members swap out in a heart beat anyway.
on my Gray AE i wouldn't swap out the dark headlights for 02's, I'd go with pablo's method. I can't even get myself to part with the wheels. to keep on topic, it's probably not gonna be a collectors item so there's no need to keep it if you want the $$$ or another car

The AE may still go down as a classic. The 2K2 may have a more powerful motor, but mostly what Nissan engineers did is bore out the VQ30DE-K. It's a small step up. Still the same body etc. Admittedly, a 6 speed manual and HIDs were an awesome step up, but the 6 speed has shown itself not to be much better performancewise when compared to the 5 speed in the Altima V6. The 6 speed's greatest benefit seems to be giving the VQ the ability to cruise at lower rpms on the highway. Does it matter, if the 3.5 still gets the same mileage or worse as the 3.0 in AE? And the HIDs, even though they are a big step, they're kindof a small step up, too. Just lights.

I love my AE. She's so pretty. We have the top of the line model. It is more than others can say. Plenty of people would love to have the AE. We have been fortunate enough to get it. Consider yourself lucky to have it. Hold on to it.

I look at this rendition as the last of the breed stepping aside for the new Altima. The VQ 3.0L V6 is one of the sweetest engines available; Japanese "kaizen" at its best. The VQ engines are simple, clean, smooth, good power, good economy and durable achieved with standard manufacturing processes.

Hold on to it. There is always going to be something new on the block and it will usually be better but if the car is nice,(and you said it is) and it has treated you well, enjoy it because as sure as you breathe, there will always be another model that comes out that is more advanced than the current one.

If you are compairing HP with newer cars or other makes, there will always be faster cars out there. I know most of the guys/gals that own a AE enjoy it very much. There aren't alot of them out there. When I took mines back to the dealer for some work, the service writer and the valet guy was checking out my car. They asked me if I put any aftermarket stuff on it. I said no, I just lowered it and tinted the windows. They've never even seen a AE before, and they work at a Nissan dealership. Those kinds of compliments are priceless.
I agree with you guys on the HID housing... the stock AE housings do look alot better IMO. And as for HP... nothing a SC or NOS can't fix

I would love to sucker someone into selling thier pampered, used, AE Max. You can pick one up for about 20K and that is a whole lot of car for the price. To anyone thinking of selling for the allure of a 2K2, do not, your car is just as nice.
I have an AE and somewhat a little disappointed because they should have put the 3.5 engine, HID, 2 tone leather, crome wheels, and a key that looks like the 300Z Key, as well as number of quanities. Like #25 out of 1000. Don't get me wrong about its an awesome ride specially the appearance, I get looks and compliments. I'm thinking of selling my AE because I don't use it often, why pay for a car note and insurance if it's in the garage collecting dust. Maximas are the best for the money out there. You get more for the buck! Let me know if anyone is interested?

Now what was done to make it special is a carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber trunk lid, and some other carbon fiber parts plus upping the HP by 27 Horses, in addition they added lighter seats and some other stuff I don't remember at the moment. Now when to see an M3 with the CSL tag on it you know that is one bad a$$ car. I love the AE Max in reality more than the 2K2 but I feel that Nissan did not do anything special to have an AE tag on it, I feel it is just some additional options you can get on the 2K1 se.
I am definitely a fan of the AE and i was actually looking into trading in my 2k SE for a 5-speed majestic blue/black leather AE a few weeks ago. Personally i think that the 2k-2k1 models look better than the 2k2 but thats just my opinion. another reason why i love the AE is because u can get it in the majestic blue exterior color which i love!!!
I agree with nice95GLE. The AE is a nice looking car but the body kit, chrome polished wheels, 5 extra HP, and the other visual add ons are not worth the extra $2-3K more than the SE. Maybe if they used the 3.5VQ instead of the 3.0VQ...then I think it would of been a special edition Max.
