time after time the "valentine" ranks among the best in detection and filtering out false signals...only available thru mail order...i think the cost is about $400 US.

$400 is a little too much for a radar...

pulled out my trusty Car & Driver...just to give you an idea...
the Cobra XR-1050 (not the one you mentioned) scored 43 out of a possible 100...this particular model lists for $399...the one you mentioned was $160...you can make your own conclusions...

Escort Passport The Way To Go!

I did a lot of research on radar dedectors before I purchased mine. Although the V1 is ranked as one of the highest, you can find just as many reviews giving the edge to the Escort Passport for $100 less than the V1, and is available at Best Buy and other retail chains. I have had mine for about 6 months now, and have had 0 tickets, but has saved my but many times!

if you want to do some research, check out Feb '02 Car&Driver...they test 6 "popular" radars. the findings are pretty thorough and each radar has qualities that may be important to you...i.e. if the fuzz use lidar (laser) or traditional X, K, and Ka...
in case you wanted to know...later

scored 61 out of 100 on this same evaluation...seems like a pretty good unit except for a noted weakness in rear vision lasar detection. Funny thing, they are illegal in Canada (my home) and their plant is about 10 mins from my house??

Actually it's only illegal to use one in Canada. It's perfectly legal to own one. You can think of it as a bottle of beer with respect to driving. It can't be in a position easily accessible to the driver otherwise it is perfectly allowable (albeit perfectly useless). Of course I still believe it's in your best interest to hide the detector even if you are in the states.

As for which is the best, www.radartest.com is a very good site with a lot of indepth testing and explanations (look at their 4 best in the world review).
