1st time at the track

Hey

This weekend i went to Atco Raceway in south jersey. 1st time running my 2k2 GLE max. weather was nice like 65-70 and i got in 5 good runs. my first run i was nervous as hell almost jumped the start but not Horrible i ran a 15.5s 1/4 mile. Best run of the day was a 14.90s. my only performance mod is frankencar intake. AFter my 3rd run i changed tire pressure to 25 in the front 40 in the back, suggested by a veteran at the track. dropped .3 seconds just from that. Anyway any tips on getting better times and what mods can do it? Thanks

Are you Auto or Stick? If your stick, you need to be shifting at just about redline.

Do they even make a 6 speed GLE? How did you control when you shifted?

I don't know, probably not! I don't want to go to the nissan dealership to look at the 02's because I will want one.

Knowing me, I would trade in my loaded SE 5sp for a stripped 02' 6sp just for the performance gain. Then after a week I would not love the car as much!!!

I got 14.8s with 2.2 60' so lowering your 60' should get you to about 14.6-7s. I don't manually shift, TQ brake, lower my pressure, or take out the spare or sound system so you should be able to hit mid 14s with some practice.

Yea next time i have to take out my spare, i also had some crap in the trunk cuz i didn't plan to go to the track ahead of time. I tried just keeping it in D but the two times i did, i got 15.5, and 15.4, manually shifting i posted 15.7(first run) 15.1 and 14.9 so for me, it was better. i just gotta practice more. thanks for the input.

Yea try torque breaking and if you have traction control, turn that off.

When you are staging at the track, press as hard as you can on the brake pedal with your left foot. Rev the car up to a desireable speed with your right foot(you are going to have to experiment with this to see which yields the best 60 foots and e/t's) I usually rev it up to around 1500. Then when release the brake on the last yellow (for best reaction times) and press the gas pedal. Don't floor it right away or else you will get wheel spin. Give it like 1/2 and when you catch, floor it til the end my man! Practice makes perfect

Haven't tried that, but i will now. hopefully i'll have better times and more practice. oh yea. some ppl at the track, waiting for the last 2 to finish, spin their wheels like CRAZY without moving at all. how do they do that? i'm assuming u can't with auto, but if u can how?

They are most likely RWD. By having RWD you can hold down the brake pedal as hard as you can while giving the car gas to spin the back tires. In a FWD car you can't relaly do that because the wheels are pulling you instead of pushing like in a RWD car. You can pull up the ebrake but you will most likely slide and you don't want a bald spot on your tires.

Nice times, I tried manually shifting the Auto, and also tried it the regular way, by just leaving it in D, the times were similar. I dont think lowering the tire pressure on an auto, will be that critical. As far as removing sapers, and stuff like that, come on ! We're not ricers, it wont make that much difference , if any at all...
