It's hard to observe the rules when you have a Y-Pipe. Vroom vroom.

Rules were made to be broken.

What if I were to be able to replace the two screws that hold the plate in with some sort of air compressed/hydraulic spring, that when a switch gets flipped, it completely blows your license plate forward...the bottom of the plate would be on door hinges, so the plate would be sticking out, facing down....
How about putting the bottom of the liscense plate on a spring hinge, and replacing the upper bolts with attachments for some small cable. have the holes go thru to the inside of the trunk to a motor that winds and unwinds the cord. flip the switch and it unwinds and the spring pulls the plate down, turn it back on and and winds back up into place. All you would have to do is fabricate the doohikey to hold the motor to wind the cord. A dremel and some cheap metal should do the trick. hmm??

I'm trying to visualize this and I don't get it at all....... Which way does the plate face when all is said and done? Up? Or down? Down, right?

I really like the spring hinge idea with the exception of the motor. What if I could keep it on a spring loaded hinge and the top part was just clipped on. You run a switch to the clip and The clip just turns to the plate will be released. How would I make the switch..hmmmmmm

How about using the remote trunk release to jerk a cover over the plate (maybe between the plate and the cover)? You would have to open your trunk with the key from then on but no big loss there. You could also activate it with the remote if needed.

Sorry I don't have a suggestion on what to use as a cover or how to mount it (I think that is what you are looking for) but thought I would mention the remote trunk release in case you hadn't though about it and wanted to save the trouble of running a cable and a release.

Only downside is once activated it would need to be reset some other way (manually or with another remote cable).

anything that is obvious and can be clearly seen will get you pulled over by the popos. example, if a police officer is behind you in traffic and he notices hinges on your license plate... youre screwed.

But I thought it had to be clearly obstruction the plate. Hinges aren't a crime. I haven't altered the plate in any way (I will attach the hinges to a plastic frame) or tried to cover it up with anything. The normal passerby would have no problem making out what the plate says.

The old Buicks have them, why can't I?

I dunno but I ran through one of the photo ramps one day at over 125mph in my GTP and they still caught it.
I made it from one exit on the 407 to the next in less than 10 seconds... it was empty... I was young and cunning (and stupid).
My father opened the toll highway bill and went crazy on me too after he looked at the entry/exit time lol..

I was thinking bout this the other day driving on the GA 400. How fast you think you'd have to go for the pictures taken not to get the license plate? Just curious, I'm sure it's some insane speed, and not really worth the trouble.
