For those with busted MAF sensors . . .
Let's find out what's really going on. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND IF YOUR MAF SENSOR IS STILL OK.
Cast your vote!
PS: I voted "Other" so I could keep track of the results of the poll. I'll keep all those who don't vote posted as to how the poll is proceeding. Stay tuned!

I'll tell you what, lcf and Colonel. If we get enough of a response to warrant it, I'll put up another post asking those who resonded to indicate the model year of their Maxima. But I've still only got one vote so far. So it may not make that much difference.

All right. We've got two failures with Frankencar intakes and one with a Berk Tuning intake. Would the individual whose MAF sensor failed with the Berk Tuning intake care to identify himself or herself?

I agree this needs to include the year of the car. Also, there could be a higher number of 2k2's out there with FC intakes than other intakes. The 2k2 MAF may just not like any aftermarket intake. I've had the FC intake on my 2k1 for over four months with no problems.

I voted other. I had an over oiled K&N from the factory. K&N sent me a new one and all is good now (for about 2 months so far).
I don’t think it means anything...but I had a FC at the time. The failure was clearly the over oiled filter though.
I have a 2k2.

should we dedicate this page to 2k2 only and make another poll for 2k1 and 2k?
y2kse....should we generate another one for types of intake each individual has? so we can get better statistic on overall MAF failure?

ok, I am going to do a poll on types of intake that people have.

There's been some speculation that the MAF sensor in 2K2s is defective. But if the MAF sensor was the culprit, I'd expect to see more even results from all of the intakes in the poll. And there's also been some speculation that vibration is causing the problem. In all fairness to Frankencar, however, I don't know if the Frankencar intake is showing up more often because more people are running Frankencars than any other intake. That might make an interesting topic for another poll, however.

BioMaxDDS's failure may very well be do to him trying to clean the MAF with K&N filter cleaner.
I responded to an earlier poll about MAF failures after installing a Stillen unit. But after clearing the code I have had no problems. So I didn't vote on this one.
And I never posted about this before because I felt like a F'ing idiot. But when I installed my Frank I did it when I was very tired and after getting everything apart I ate dinner then fell asleep on the couch. I woke up a few hours later and realized I had to get the schit back together so my wife could use the car in the morning. Needless to say when I was putting it back together I dropped the MAF(cringe). Then when I was done I started the car to test drive it. It ran fine I back it out of the driveway put it in 1st. hit the gas and it died (big cringe). When I open the hood I realized I didn't plug the MAF back up. After getting that taken care of I drove the car with no problems (BIG BIG SIGH). I had an SES light but it drove fine so later the next day I took it to my buddy's shop reset the code. That was about a month ago since then there has been no SES light and it runs great.

My mfg date was 10-01-01. I didn't keep the flex pipe. I did have the knocking noise. I have since replaced the CAI with the stock box. I've ordered some parts from Courtesy Nissan's Parts Dept. I found another thread here on the .org that said the sensor itself was only $60+ dollars, so I ordered 2 of them. I will put the PR CAI back in once I have the extra sensors on-hand and can devote 24 hours downtime to reset the ECU. The dealer stole a MAF off a 2003 SE and installed it on my 2002 SE since they didn't have one in stock.

This has been done a million times. It happens more with those having a K&N and more with those who attached their brace onto the strut tower. The model number A600 MAF has had the lowest amount of problems. The failures seem to be more prevelent in other model numbers which is why Nissan has a TSB that replaces the others with a shiny new A600.

I have a 2002 Maxima Gle and I put the JWT intake on and it ran great for about a month and then my MAF went. I purchased another MAF and within a week it went. I then bought another MAF and put the stock set up on and I haven't had any problems since which is great but now I have an intake that is useless to me.
