service engine soon light

My "service engine soon" light in on the dash at 24,900 miles. If I do the scheduled maintenance myself will resetting the ECU get rid of this?

You can try unplugging the battery overnight. If that fails, take it to the dealer. The only time the dealer would charge you, it's if the
light came up because the gas cap was not properly tight.

I doubt it. But try, and disconnect the battery for a day. Mine used to keep coming on, until I put the stock airbox back on and the dealer reprogrammed the ECU.

So you think the air intake is causing the computer to pick up a repair code. the car runs like a top! Is there any way to read the repair codes off of the ECU w/o any special equipment. I had an Isuzu trooper that would flash a certain sequence, from which you could read the code against the repair manual and it would tell you stuff like.... bad o2 sensor or whatever....

There is a way, but I just wanted my dealer to fix it, since this should not be happening to my brand new car. They kept refusing due to my air filter, and when i removed it and they scanned it, they said it gave them 2 codes: 1 fault one, and second code was due to some bad mixture, which they believe was linked to unproper airfilter.
They reprogrammed the ECU and it's fine now, so i'm just gonna get the K&N drop in.
good luck.

Why did you need to have your ECU reprogrammed, VTblckmax?

well maybe i'm getting the term mixed up.

but my 'service engine light' came on once and when i took it in for the regular service the guy told me they just had to reprogram the "computer". didn't charge me. the second time the engine light came (i was getting close to 50K miles) i took the car in for just the oil change and to have him see why the light came on. he did the same thing of just reprogramming the computer. but now my charge was over 300 bones. no way in hell an oil change is over $300 dollars. but my naive *** didn't say anything about cuz i figure they had to do something special about.....

I'll try the unplugging thing. Does anyone know if there's an ECU performance upgrade out there?

Of course they charged you $300, you're over 36K miles so no longer under warranty.
