My Best Gas Miles, 497 On Full Tank
My Best Gas Miles, 497 On Full Tank
NO NO, this is not a joke. I went out of town this morning.
Speed was 70 in 65 and 75 in 70. Cruise, and had A/C on all the way there and back. My First best was 450 when I got the car, and went on a long trip. This tops that one. about 30/31 MPG..

Re: My Best Gas Miles, 497 On Full Tank
Hey, I'm doing the same experiment as we speak... I've got 220 miles on half a tank and was planning on taking pictures when the tank is done. I'm expecting about 420-440 miles, but that includes around town, highway, and 3 rips at WOT (2 for a friend who hadn't been in my car, one against the corolla "S" from another thread
).
Will take pictures when I'm done this tank.

Btw-love that pic of your car sliding sideways...how many tries did it take to get that shot?
400 was my all time best and that was when I lived in Seattle. Now that I live in Hawaii all my trips are about 15 miles, its more like three hundred something miles per fill up. Damn 497 thats awesome, and don't you have mods too!

I've gotta 2k2, and all I can say is as the years go by... the Max is getting more horsies
but less mpg's!
My personal BEST in 9K plus miles is 312 Miles on a tank, and I ran it DRY!!
18.5 gallon tank. I baby'ed it!Powerful and silky the 3.5 is... Fuel efficient it's not. IMHO.
2k2wannabe: if you are getting 220 on 1/2 tank, You may be able to push another 120 out or maybe 150 on the 2nd half tank. You won't double on the 2nd half.
DrVolkl: 2 Tries to take the pic, 1st wasn't sideways enough
GXEme: NorthCarolina is full of hills, Some flat roads but not a lot. I get about 370-410 In city.

I WORSHIP my Max, don't get me wrong. But the gas mileage (for me at least) just hasn't been real good for me so far. I've heard of several other 2k2's with similarly below average gas mileage. Maybe, just that our cars are still green. I would kill to get 380-450 to a tank!
I actually keep a mpg record, and after 9k miles... I've gone from 17.0-17.5 mpg (brand new) -TO- about 19.0 mpg's (currently). I get about 290 to a tank, using about 15.5 gallons of the tank. I've taken certain small steps to improve my mpg's. These numbers are acceptable, but not nearly the numbers some of the earlier Max's are generating. But again, I'm perfectly happy w/ my Max, I'm just glad to see others w/ those outstanding numbers!
Looks like you had 2 gallons to spare. Kind of related to the topic, but the 2K2 trip computer's "distance to empty" readout is totally off!
By the way, if you're in Sacramento, why does your receipt say North Carolina? Road Trip?

how do you drive Pioneer?
when do you usually shift your gears...what rpms?
cuz i usually get 260 with my crappy auto and that's almost when the tank is empty. i don't drive hard...over here and there just punch it a little bit...but 85% of the driving its normal relaxed driving
is your trunk empty?
you must be pushing the car or something to get this kinda mileage...damn, its really good man

highest I got was 375, mostly highway. Seems like Shell gives me more mileage over Chervon for some reason.

Change my Oil Every 2500 miles, Nissan Filer, Mobil 1 5w30 Synthetic
Change my Transmission fluid every other oil change, Redline MT-90
yeah, you would say this guy is crazy, but O well, I use to give this car some real hell, I don't anymore but Its never let me down, so its the least I can do.
I have actually broken the 500 mark twice in my 2k max, once on a drive to FLA and again on a drive to St Louis. The most I have gotten was like 512. Very nice. The best I have gotten in my IS300 is 417, which isnt bad, it is a smaller tank by a gallon, but the mileage the max gets me still amazes me. What a great all around car the max is.
I typically get 600 km a tank on my 2k2 6 spd. Not sure what that works out to in miles. Suprisingly, there isn't much of a difference between my 2k2 and the wife's 2K 5 spd. We both get approximately 600 km a tank. Must be the gearing...

I am hoping this is the case. I am about to get a new car turn in my '00 SE 5-speed. I am very likely going to get a leftover '02 or an '03 TE 6-speed. I have been very satisfied with my MPG overall (consistantly 23-25mpg around town) and won't be thrilled if there is a significant drop with the 3.5L engine.
I think the fact that I always use premium (93 octane) and move my way up to 5th gear on anything over 40mph probably helps a lot. I know a lot of people ride around in 3rd or maybe 4th at that speed, but I think that sucks up tons of gas. Besides, the car is fun to row.

Regardless, I put in about 15-15.5 and go average 360miles on the tank. Sometimes a little more....once a little less.
You can't really compare autos vs. manual. Manuals seems to get much better city mileage than autos, as I have NEVER seen an auto Maxima (4th or 5th gen) get over 20mpg in the city. Manuals, you can short shift, and force the good mileage.
I get around 17mpg in city driving (5-10 mile trips), and around 24-25mpg on normal highway driving. Overall, I get around 19-20mpg. One time on a road trip I got 29mpg, but that was going on a flat freeway with the cruise set at 70-75.
