What's the average cost of a new set of tires for 5th Gen SE 17" rims?

I'm thinking about buying a set with some trashed tires so I want to know how much more I should plan on spending on tires. I know that because of the odd ball size the cost of the tires is slightly more. I can get a set of brand new 17x8 Cobra rims with tires for about $800. The SE rims are going for $425, and I'll have to add the cost of tires. So I'm trying to figure out the best route to take. I like the OEM look, but it might not be worth it. The cobra rims look pretty sweet on the max too.

I wouldn't call that much of a "Discount".

I don't care what you do as long as you don't put no 235/45R17 tires on my OEM rims!

Not to sound to much like a "Newbe", but why not 235/45/17 on the stock Y2K2 SE 17"s???

There are a million threads on this subject, spm1970. And you may be able to tell from the responses of those more interested in amusing themselves than in disseminating useful information that this is a hot topic.

I'd recommend you begin by opening Page 3 of the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). Look for a post entitled, "Can I run oversized tires on my stock 17" SE rims?". When you're done reading that, do a search in the 5th Gen column under the word "tires" and you'll find all the info you're looking for.
