I'm wondering, of all the people that have purchased/installed the HID security bolts, have you had a chance to see how they work? As in did anybody try unsuccessfully or successfully to steal your HIDs after you put them in?

Tim, I am glad you came out with this. While the problem isn't as bad in Chicago as it is in NYC, I wanted to ensure that mine were secured in the event it does.

Basically they cannot get the headlights in one piece. This is meant to slow them down ALOT. Right now, they only need about 2 mins.. with these bolts, they will need 2 hours...if they can remove them at all! However, that doesnt mean they cant rip your ballasts or break the tabs... but they will not get a useful set of Maxima headlights. There are no winners in that case.. I was hoping they would give up.. or take so long that you'll hear your alarm or someone will see them. The one tested case so far (supafly), they had to move his car in order to have enough time with the lights. Even then they had to break the housing tabs to get them. If anything, its to give you the edge... we still need hoodlocks, a shock sensing alarm, and some tab protection.

its not a simple allen key. its a security torx. *and* its metric. You cannot fit a screw driver in there.. or a regular torx. Not something you buy at HD or Lowes. In fact, you won't find them at you local fastener dealer either because they are metric. I have to order bulk from the mfg.

If you install the backing bolts, even if you had the key, it would be a bish to remove.

the idea here is that they pop your hood and go "WTF?!" They will not get them with vise grips.

On the only car thats been hit with these installed, Supafly mentioned that they rolled his car back and appearently had to take some time with it. They ended up breaking the tabs. They didnt get working Maxima lights. I doubt the ballasts survived either. I mean he didnt win.. but at least they didnt either.

If there had been a better than factory alarm, they wouldnt have had time. Thats all these bolts can do for you. Buy you some time. Thieves have shown they can do ANYTHING with enough time.

Its not alot to spend $11 plus shipping ~ $15 for alittle added security. But honestly, spend the money for a real alarm too. and a closed loop sensor ($15 addon from Directed) because they can break the lights without even lifting the hood.

if I were in NYC/NJ, I would have the hood latch wire shielded or wrapped in a metal spring so it couldnt be cut.

and I would use this around the tabs.

I already have this
http://www.autopageusa.com/autopageusars750.htm (I got mine for $225 on sale, usually $295 + install)
which I intend to install after they fix my climate control LED light that went out this weekend.

is there a high-theft of the headlamps?

I wouldn't think so, but by this thread, there seems to be an issue?

Tim, they look very sturdy, well done on locating the parts

Driven, its a HUGE prob in the NE. some have been hit more than once ($3000-4000). There are quite a few stories of theft here. Entire dealerships have been hit. It only takes a minute a side with a plain 10mm socket. Its as bad as the Acura HID problem in NJ/NY. Unfortunately, they dont seem to care if the break the housings or not. That I cant prevent, but they wont get the bolts out without some serious time. In fact, in NJ someone said they will just pry them out of the sockets *OUCH*. that of course breaks the ballasts and everything. Crack heads.....

Yeah, I got all stainless and plated stuff. Should hold up for a long time.
