Who would be interested in a Quaiffe ATB Differential for automatics?
Who would be interested in a Quaiffe ATB Differential for automatics?
I've been in contact with Qauiffe and Cattman about these units and so far we have two options.
1) If the differential/flange on the 5sp is similar to the auto then we just buy it from Cattman and use that (Still verifying if they're the same)
2) If not, read on:
They both gave me slightly different numbers so i'll mention what Quaiffe told me. They are willing to create an ATB Diff. for us automagic owners based on the following conditions.
a) We send them a sample of the differential and flange for them to base the model upon.
b) If production starts in September we might get it done by November.
c) A *minimum* of 30 orders is needed. 50% to start and the balance when they release the final product. (Hopefully if we go through Brian we can lower this minimum)
Now to just give a brief summary, us automagic owners only have a Traction Control System to help keep power equally distributed to both wheels and to the ground. However, unlike a non-open Differential (HLSD for 2k2 6spds) the TCS actually robs you of power by applying the brakes and cutting down on the engine's output. The ATB will make sure all available power goes where it's needed.
Btw, a plus to getting Quaiffe make it for us is that they warranty it even if it's used for racing
I know 30 units is a long shot and this is not an easy weekend project it's worth a shot to see how many interested members will go for it.
Note, there's a good chance this might fit on *all* 5th gen's if the transmission remained relatively unchanged - otherwise it's likely this will only be for the 2k2's. I'll also see about asking people over at Altimas.net for interested parties.
Thanks for your time.

Good work, soundmike! Sounds very interesting, and (of course) it all depends on the final project cost. Can you get an estimated cost range? Serious traction is what 2k2 owners REALLY need! Oh, yeah... and Nitrous also!

If the transmission on 4th gen's is similar to the 5th then most likely you'll benefit from it as well. I was only able to get confirmation that auto/manual differentials were different on 5th gens.
As far as price goes, Quaiffe didn't give me the #'s as it will totally depend on how hard it will be for them to custom-make these babies for us.
But judging from Cattman's prices for the manual transmission, take out a couple hundreds for the overhead and profit i'd say we *probably* could get these for less than a grand each.

I wonder if the guy that had his tranny "bullit-proofed" has dropped his 0-60 & 1/4 times significantly... Or does he have an SC now, also?
BTW: 4th gens don't need more traction... they need more POWER...
