That's a pretty good video...be nice to get the spec's on the two vehicles. Doesn't it sound, to you, like they are both automatics? The engine's aren't rev'ing up before the wheel's start to spin. I would expect some noise before that clutch drops....just a thought.

I wouldn't really know, by the time the cam stabilized they were too far away to figure out if any shifting was done on the max (signify a manual).

But i can't believe it got smoked like that... looks to me it was a couple of cars behind at the least. Staged perhaps?

In 10 seconds the Max already started to be left behind. And to think the CL-S was even in the outside lane...

I'm at a disadvantage. I don't have a sound driver installed on my pc here at work.

The CL-S seems to be a stock 6spd (take out the race.wmv in the URL and you'll see the site of the cls owner).

I love my max alot but i have to admit.. that cl has a very nice back.It looks very muscular.I wonder if the 6 speed is as smooth as the S2000's and the RSX type s.

The Max got stomped. I think the Max was a 6spd. I don't know what to say. The dude may have been shifting to early in the Max.

The CL-S was a 6 speed vs Auto Max.... Very simple explanation why the Max lost.

The max driver could be a $hitty shifter. Both cars are pretty close, it would again depend on the driver.

BTW, that video is depressing but it doesn't look to bad. I think that Maxima is an auto.

It's an auto 2k2 max... Damn that 215/55/17 of that CL-S is fighting for some traction!! I see why CL-S owners complain about it...

I agree.....The race was btw a stock CL-S 6 speed vs stock 2k2 Auto. As for the driver excuse....How do you mess up driving an auto????? In 10 seconds I can show my mom how to brake tq an auto and she could be putting down good numbers.

Not with the 6spd CL-S vs 2k2 auto max...6spd CL-S and 2k2 Max 6spd would be a good match..

I found who owns that 6spd on ACURA-CL.COM so happens he lives in Austin, TX and he was replying to a post on my spring install and I saw he had in his sig MR2 for autox, same one in the pic on his site! hehehehhe....

I am asking him for details on the max now.

Guys, the post is over at acura-cl.com under racing stories. I just found it! heheheh....here is his post..

'02 Maxima 3.5SE (automatic) kill
Friend had a 3.5SE for rental car (too bad not a stick), so group of us did some runs today. Other friend wanted to see how his Intrepid R/T would hang. The R/T lost all 3 times, so I decided to run against the Max once to show him what the CL can do

I had a horrible launch (man I need some practice with feathering this clutch out on hard launches. Toyos would be nice too). Wheelspin all the way in 1st and first part of second. Needless to say, I was ahead the entire time. Had him by a few car lengths by 100 & I had eased up a lil after 80. Was alot easier than I expected, especially with my crappy launch. At least my friend's R/T will get ahead of me by a bumper off the line.

Hey guys,

That's my 6spd CLS that did the run. The Max was an auto. I'm sure if the max was a manual, the result would have been a tossup.

I haven't done an official 1/4mi run at the track yet. But I do have a dyno:

Perhaps i'm blind, but it looked like the Max kept up well with the Acura. I don't see how it got roasted or anywhere near it until they hit I guess about 80 or so. Then it looked like the Max shut down. Notice how it leans back a little? I don't think the Maxima driver was going all-out at the last leg of the race. Even so, I will never admit a VTEC being better than a VQ though...
