Heh, lets hope so.. They are releasing parts of the car daily up untill the 10th. Cant wait to see what it looks like. They also hint that the 4 banger is going to produce around 180-190 hp!!!

The backend just might look like a normal car this time. Lets see what shows up in Detroit.

Horse Power for the 2002 Altima

We will be putting in a 240 HP v6 engine. Note the dual outlets in the rear fascia. There will be 2 pipe exits. We are running trial units through the Altima Plants here in Smyrna right now as we speek. A few of them will have the V6 engine I believe to be the same 3.5l.

Ummm no, confirmed reports the Altima is for sure getting the 222 hp MAXIMA engine from this year. And the MAX is gettign the 260hp Engine. If they had THAT much power in the Altima they would not sell Maximas.....

But they will have a optional I4 SR20VE that is the car as well...

Altima

You really think Nissan would add on 1000 more employees and expand the facility at the Dechard, TN plant to build a new V6(222 hp as you say) for the Altima and the new V8 for the Canton, Mississippi full size SUV/Truck to turn around a year later to add another V6(3.5L 260 hp) for the Maxima. This would be a waste of money and time wouldn't you think? I will do some double checking on what specs we were told a couple months ago when we were shown pictures of the new Altima.

Ummm hello!? Where have you been?!!!!??!? Why build the engine? It's already made! Just needs to be installed in the Altimas, and the Truck already has the 260hp engine which will go into the MAXIMA. Geez dude, you are new and don't start coming here thinking you know everything! Everyone here already knows what is coming you don't.

Russ

You must be the new one here if you haven't seen me posting since July when I first started. Open your eyes. So I guess you are the guy that knows everything. Must be nice to be a know it all? If we are going to put the 222 HP engine in the new 2002 Altima, then they have told all of us at the Smyrna Nissan plant the wrong information.

Yep they have. Your info is flawed. I have been here since 1996 in this club. I ran this club for over 1 year in 98. Again your info is flawed.

I have to agree with you Russ. It seems EXTREMELY unlikely that the Altima would get the 35L.

This Thump guy was saying stuff like this about a month ago...and I asked him if he worked for the plant..and guess what he never responded....until now. Sorry, but I am just not sure if I believe him.

as much as russ' reputation has been trashed on MANY boards, ima go with him on this. of all the rumors that have been spread for many months, there has not been one that said that the altima will get a 3.5l vq. even though its only a rumor, it's highly unlikely that the altima will get the same powerplant as the 3.5l maxima.

Exactly, why would they sell the Altima with that? It would kill sales of the flag ship Maxima. The ALTIMA confirmed reports will get the SR20VE I4 and the VQ30DE (HP unsure but will be around 200-220). Maxima is for sure at 260hp 3.5L V6. 2002 Sentra SE-R will have the new 2.5L I4 that produces 180-190hp! I may get flammed on other boards is because they won't believe the real facts. That is the typical Rice Boy community they are.

well... the specs you state are what would be very likely. i havent heard anyone speak up on any specs set in stone. the real specs may or may not be like you state them to be, but id expect them to be fairly similar.

Well....

I don't think the base engine is gonna be the sr20ve. WHY? Well....that engine would be going in the wrong direction. Why don't we have an accord type R? Because no family man is gonna rev that puppy to 8k! The sr20 ve or not, is gonna have less torque than the current KA24. With a larger, heavier car, 190hp VVL engine is gonna be out of place. Just imagine a current gen accord with a gs-r engine in it. It *may* be fast but it would not be able to keep its composure.

The base engine will be the NEW QR25DE. Double ballance shafts, coil on plug, not sure about Valve timing. The first QR20 realased in Japan is making like 150hp. Thats only 5hp more than our current sr20. I would expect to see 2.5L to make around 175hp. Thats not bad considering it would be a solid 20hp in a car thats not gonna be too much heavier.

Here is the real ticket. Which VQ30DE is the Altima gonna get? 222hp or the 190hp? Figure the Altima is gonna be around the size of the 4th gen...or maybe a hair smaller. Now if the 4th gen with 190hp did its thing in 6.7-7.0 whats a car the same weight with the 222hp gonna do?

Russ is right, some of this has become old news. I heard about the Maxima getting a 3.5L from the Nissan guys that came to maxus, but they used like 10 ways to deny it though. The altima will get a V6. Those guys said it would be a new 3.2 liter V6 but don't hold me to it. 2005 max they said would get the 4.5 from the Q45, and would move to a Rear wheel drive, and bigger in size, again don't hold me to that, those were the words from the Nissan Reps that came to Maxus. Also they said that Nissan is thinking about a Maxima Coupe with IRS and not Beam axle but that was something they threw in the mix of things. Sentra SE-R getting a 2.5 liter next year and Might have a S/C option from factory on the 2.0 liter. Xterra may get the S/C from the Fronter. Z will have a I6 close to 270-300HP. Infinit will drop the G20 at the end of its cycle, Will drop the I30 at the end of its cycle and might bring the XVL to the US market as the replacement of the I30. Also Infinity may have a roadster coming to the US in the coming years. The main Word I heard from those guys is that Nissan Plans to Introduce 13 new/changed model cars to the US Market in the next 3-5 Years starting with the 2002 altima..
