2k Max 5 Speed vs 1990 SHO
I used to own a 1990 Taurus SHO 5 speed in which I installed a Borla cat back exhaust and upgraded the mass air flow intake from a 55mm to 80mm. The SHO had a redline of 7200 rpm and from 4k to 6k on the tach, the engine came to life and really pulled. I now have a 2K SE 5 speed with an UDP and I'm waiting for the Warpspeed B and Y pipes.
Once the Max engine hits 4K, the engine doesn't behave as nearly as strong as the SHO. It seems like it is being exhaust flow restricted.
Will the addition of the Y and B pipe bring additional life to the Max engine in the 4K to 5.5 k range?

One of the biggest diffs in the engines is the switching of the intake runners, the SHO switched to the short fat runners about 1K RPMs soon, which enabled you to "feel" it through 3K RPMs. The Max has the same technology except it switches intake runners at like 5K RPMs which only gives you 1.5KRPMs to use until redline. We need to figure out a way to turn on the shorted intake runners at 4K RPM vs. 5K. The VQ would really pull then.

I do remember the SHO as I had a 1990 SHO with a pro MAF, Y-pipe, etc..... That car was pretty damn fast. It was great on the highway but horrible from a stop. I also had the redline moved up to 7800 rpm!!!

You are always breathing through the long runners, but at 4k (on stock SHO's), the butterflies are actuated and you can now breathe through all runners.
