Do your friends treat your car with respect?

Here are a few things friends have done that I am not too thrilled about:

- Yesterday we went to play ball and friend put his gym back on the
hood. The bag has plastic feet and today I found some streaks/
scratches on the hood.

- When I helped this gal move, she told me she didn't want a certain
item in her $15,000 car (Malibu) cuz it might damage the seats.
He insisted that I put it in my car

- When I first got the car I let a friend drive it and he revved it
to about 5,500 rpm and I told him 'Hey this is a standard, you have
to shift!'

- Sometimes you see people pulling up to a locale and guys/gals will
jump on the hood of the car. I am glad they haven't jumped on
mine cuz I know the imports have softer hoods, unlike the American
cars.

- People who don't shut the passenger door properly would do a hip
check to re-close the door. A no-no in my world.

- Some people have bad coordination. I see mud and dirt on the glove
box, door speaker panel, etc because when they get out of the car
they will accidentally kick these areas.

- The Max's trunk seems to be tight, and people tend to slam it.
OTOH, people often have to shut the doors twice.

That is just a short list.

i hear ya

yeah what's up will people slamming the trunk??
i had this buddy i would pick up to go golfing and i would pull up pop the trunk an d he puts his clubs in and slams the trunk lid.
he will see me shut it when i get my clubs out at the course and i just shut it easy. and this works. i think he also scratched the lid by the license plate with his clubs.

bottom line: people just don't respect OPP (other peoples property)

i hear you dood...

If they're gonna rev to see how powerful may max is, they're gonna have to get the okay from me... most of them are pretty good about.

As for placing stuff or sitting on my hood i'll definitely give them something to hear about...

I put more care into other people's car than mine.
The general rule of thumb should be that people should respect other people's car as much they respect their own just like a house. Why is it so hard to apply the "Golden Rule"...??

The only time I would care less about treating a car nicely is when I rent a car. Its sole purpose is to be used by none other than strangers.

Well its nice to know that I am not the only **** one about my car...

Heres one for ya:
I was at the drags a couple weeks ago, luckily I didnt bring my new max. I had my 88 T-bird turbo coupe with a g-GT-40 5.0 in it. Granted the paint isnt mint like the Max, but I try to take care of it so it stays nice. Anyway, I am sitting there in the car in line just chillin smoking a but, and I see a bunch of kids standing around the car behind me talking. Well I glance over in the rear view and see 2 of them leaning against the rear 1/4. So I am like ok a-holes... So I wait about 5 min to see if one of there other buddies says get off that car.. Nope... Now I start playing. I slowly press the clutch slightly enough to roll down the hill backward. Both kids jump really quick ans say WTF... They couldnt see if I was in the car cuz of the tint... 2mins later they are leaning again.. So this time I fire up my obnoxious car and scare the **** out of them, then stick my head out the window and ask if the mind... Needless to say they were all teenagers, and started apologizing all scared telling me my car was awesome,etc.. I reply with It would look better if young punk didnt lean against it.... You had to see there faces, funny as hell..

Ya, it ****es me off when people do dumb stuff. I don't have the nicest car in the world, but I still take care of it.

I was helping my friend move a few weeks ago and he set a box on the roof and slide it off. The box had dirt or something on the bottom and scratched the clear coat. Then earlier his brother was puttin some clothes in my car that were on hangers. The hanger cought on the rubber door seal so he pushed it in the car harder and ripped the seal.

I've had someone sit on my hood which left a crease in it. I don't usually care if people eat in my car, but it ****es me off if they leave a mess. Empty cups under the seats, wrappers on the floor, and worst of all crumbs or pieces of food on the seats. Its gross.

What bugs me the most is when people start touching my car right after I finished washing or waxing it. I spend all this time cleaning it then I get people touching the windows and being dumb and putting their face against it. AAAHHHH.......

Re: Do your friends treat your car with respect?

Yesterday i was driving with my girlfriend. I stopped at a gas station to fill and she wanted a snakc and drink. So after I bought it, I got in the car and was placing the drink in the cup holder when she decides to get something from the center console and knoucks the drink out of my hands. It spilled all over the shifter, the center console, and down the sides. I was so f***in mad.

Try these for size....

a) I went to visit a friend of mine to show my Max. One of her friends had a portfolio (leather) and calmly placed it on my car.

Me: Almost had a conniption until he moved it. Friend thought I was being overly **** and I explained that I am that way because of all the work I put into keeping my car clean.

b) While my pastor and associate ministers were praying over my car, I noticed my pastor had her car keys in hand and they were pretty close to my hood.

Me: Praying she did not leave a scratch or dent on my hood. No scratch or dent: Prayer Answered.

c) I let one of my friends drive my 2k2 Max the day after I got it with me in the car. When he tried to park my car, I heard the sound of rim meeting curb. When I got out, I saw that the SOB curb-rashed my rim.

Me: Suppressed basic desire to open can of whoopass and mentioned that he owes me $200 (replacement rim).

d) I was exiting I-294 on my way to work one day when a Mustang GT (circa 1998) kicked up rocks on my car.

Me: He hogged 2 lanes but left me enough room to get past him. I shot past him to the point he had a expression on his face. When he tried to accelerate to catch me, he wound up hemming himself in a bunch of traffic and I my **** off.

All my friends including my girlfriend have complete respect for my Max. They have no choice, I talk about her all the time.

I do have this one friend though that can't seem to get it through his head that the trunk only needs a small amount of force to close. I took him to the mall and when we got home he walks to the trunk to get his stuff. Now he's done it before and I've already yelled at him about it but I think he has short term memory. I see the trunk raise up nice and easy then..BAM! the whole car shook and I was like "WTF is wrong with you man!?!" He has respect for my car because he sweats what I've done to her so far. Like I said he just has short term memory or is absent minded or something

The doors are tight

No doubt. I get my car detailed at this place up the street from me and they have big glass windows to watch what's going on. Without fail, EVERY TIME the guy has to double close my doors. He never gets them to close all the way the first try. He closes doors all damn day on all kinds of cars, so ours must be tighter than the average car.

People just don't know how to close trunks.. everyone thinks the trunks are made like '79 Nova's or something... just set it down lightly and put a little bit of weight on it... didn't their mom's come into their rooms after slamming the door and say "We don't slam doors in this house!" Speaking of doors.. why is it so hard to understand that the door will close with minimal force? My drivers side door has no problems with a light shove, I wonder if the other doors do? I think not. The golden rule or fact of life is that no one will respect your property more than you will. I think its time to implement the automatic doors like on the new BMW 7-series.. just close it up to a certain point and the doors close themselves... although this might be unreasonable until the maxima starts costing 3 times what it does now. I'm glad someone started a thread to vent on this issue

LOL

This is exactly why...

1. I don't let ANYBODY eat/drink in the car (my kids included!)
2. I drive at luchtime ONLY and ONLY IF necessary
3. If it is raining outside, THERE IS NO FRIGGIN' WAY I'M DRIVING at lunchtime
4. I don't help anybody move anymore unless he/she has rented a truck
5. NOBODY is allowed to mess with my car unless necessary (my wife included!)

I know, it is just a car but it is MY CAR! This is probably the only place on Earth where I rule and I do thing MY WAY!

Nobody even sits in the driver's seat.

You can never expect anyone to treat your car like you would like. You have to park way out and put yourself between objects and your car. If you care you will win the battle.

Having said that I just dropped a rake on the hood of the Vette and it was a $600 mistake.
At least I know the bastard!

Our trunk closes when you drop it like 2 cm from the damn hinges.... (Maybe it's the spoiler), but it closes EASSY... Unlike the Taurus which needs a good hard slam to close...

Doesn't really matter what car you drive, or how much it cost, or anything. If you love your car and want to keep it clean, peeps need to respect that. If not, they're walkin'...

Yeah, I don't stop people from eating in the car, nor drinking and so far no incidents. Smoking is a no no. Muddy shoes are annoying. I normally park away from other cars unless it's parallel parking, or if I have ladies with me. That's the price to pay I guess, to be kind to the gals :-)

you know this....no sips. let my friend drink gatorade in my ride 2 yesterday cuz she wasn't feeling too good and what happened? SHE SPILLED IT. It was all on her shirt, but it's still the same....she spilled it in my ride. Muddy shoes suck. Any of y'all know how to get those black scuff marks/blemishes from around the door from where folks kick the vinyl when they get in? That, my friends, is quite hideous.

Umm...yes and no.

1. One time my college class had a field trip and a couple kids piled in my car. When we got there, the one dude put his books and notebook on my trunk. Instead of lifting them off.....he dragged them...I could see the clear coat scratches forming.

2. 3rd gens don't have folding rear seats, but we do have an armrest that folds down. It looks like someone put there elbow really hard into the place where the armrest goes when up, because the cardboard backing behind the seats mysteriously is all pushed in.

3. I've had stuff thrown at my car(by friends), one thing broken off, and a Land Crusier(friend) who's 5th spare underbody wheel decided to rub some nice paint off my front bumper(no offer to pay for it of course).

4. EVERYONE slams the trunk.....from the dorks at the airport checkpoint to friends.

5. EVERYONE slams the doors. I say "Its japanese....just a light push and they shut"

I can think of more, but I'll stop.

I know exactly how you feel... my girlfriend says that to me all the time. She says "you care me about your car than you do me." It's not even that. I see it as an investment that I want to keep for a long while. It's going to be mine for a long time, so naturally I want to keep it in as good of a condition I can. She even got mad at me when we were cleaning her black 00 Prelude. She doesn't take care of that thing. Paint scratches and swirls everywhere, easily seen on a black car. While we were washing it, I kept saying "Look at this... Oh my gosh... Look here..." She got annoyed and took it the wrong way. She thinks that I think my car is better(it is though), but I'm not the type of person to brag. Bottom line: It's MY car!!
