Cattman muffler is noisy!

I just finished putting on my cattman muffler and I must say I like how it looks, but at low RPM shifting its very loud. Sounds a lot like a V8. Anybody else install it and have it sound like that also?

The only sound I hear when I think about the Cattman muffler is unnecessarily large amounts of cash being flushed down the toilet. For what you paid for that muffler, Y2KSESteve, it should damn well sing you a lullaby!

Its just money... I wanted a good brand and figured cattman would be as they make all their parts for Nissan/Infiniti and are advertised all over the org. I was just curious.

That's true, Steve. Some people are bit more frugal than to go and spend $350.00+ on an unknown and untested product. But if you've got it to throw away, why the hell not.

Here's an idea. Why don't you also buy a Greddy EVO catback, a Stillen rear section, and an HKS rear section. Then you can test them out to your heart's delight and choose the one you like the best. After all, it's just money.

You're welcome, Y2KSESteve. Just doin' what I can to help out the lurkers and the newbies avoid potential errors in judgement, don't ya know?

Now to deal with your question.

I don't know what muffler Cattman is using. You can bet he's not building them himself. He's just buying them and marking them up 300%. Chances are it's a straight through design. And ANY straight through muffler is going to be noisy. Some will be noisier than others.

So what would you recommend for an exhaust system out of curiosity?

Mine! See my sig for details. BTW, my entire catback (including a Magnaflow muffler I was running at the time) cost about as much as you paid for your Cattman muffler alone. I'm not trying to rub it in, I'm just trying to make a point.

Nope. Check under my first post on this page. You'll see what I'm talking about. Then I encourage you to create a sig of your own so you can describe your Maxima for us. Pics are cool too.

To answer your post, I feel the Cattman is much quieter than other Maxima exhausts. You should listen to Kloogy's exhaust on his web page.

And for those who act insanely jealous because they are unable to afford a quality stainless steel muffler...pray your rusty muffler lasts at least 2 years before it falls off..

...yes , Left's muffler is very quiet ! You dont even know he has an aftermarket exhaust. It would go good with Y pipe and headers...

it's ok. i've tried a few new things along the way sometimes spending too much. just look at my exhaust. i finally found the perfect setup for me. this whole thing costs about $400 and it's stainless steel and mandrel bent.

Hmmmmm. Magnaflow SS mufflers with dual tips cost about $100.00, LeftCoast. You're not seriously suggesting that Magnaflow doesn't make quality stainless steel mufflers and that they'll rust out and fall off in 2 years, are you?

Roger that, VQdriver. $400.00 is a reasonable price to pay for a custom-built, mandrel-bent, stainless-steel, catback exhaust system.

Ask Left how much the AGGRIVATION of getting the Cattman to fit properly cost.... and how much his chicken wire cost ! .... It's not his fault, though. He paid good money for what he thought was an exhaust that was supposed to bolt right up ! It didnt ! I havent heard these kinds of stories about Greddy . The one posistive about Cattman is that its QUIET ! IF that a factor for you, then get it . I personally want a non ricey rumble...Then again Left is OLD.... ...J/K MIKEY !

Jeez, kloogy. If somebody wants quiet, they can do what I did and reinstall the OEM rear section behind their custom exhaust system. That'll give them quiet AND save them $350.00!

I don't know, NISSAN69. What are YOU talking about? If you're saying that you bought a muffler that's not much louder than stock, why on earth did you do that? The OEM muffler is based on a design used in the Skyline and the 350Z. Did you honestly believe you'd be able to find a better performing low-noise muffler than that?

Please note the sarcasm... Your preference for cheaper "non-brand" exhaust sytems is noted. I will defend Cattman against any unwarranted propaganda especially when the main argument concerns $$$. Its a great product...maybe one of the best. The purchase is well worth the money for anyone who's serious about investing in thier vehicle. Hacking and piecing a cheaper exhaust is just that. Cheap.

Obviously some members are obsessed about saving money. Other members are interested in upgrading thier OEM parts.

I guess some people really DO believe that bending pipe is rocket science.

I'm not suggesting that the Cattman muffler isn't high-quality, LeftCoast. I'm just saying it's ridiculously overpriced. You can argue that point if you like. But with two of the most respected names in high-performance exhaust products, Magnaflow and DynoMax, selling their SS mufflers for around $90.00 to $100.00, you'll only make yourself look foolish if you do.

Please advise in what way you feel I should edit my post. If I agree with you, I will. Otherwise, I won't. For example, I'll back off if you're simply being facetious and I'm overreacting. If that's the case, yours won't have been the first post I've misinterpreted nor will it be the last!

If you haven't noticed, it's kind of hard to get a rise out of me, LeftCoast. That's because I rarely take a position until I've thoroughly researched a subject and I never take anything anyone says to me around here personally. I don't need to involve myself in personalities when I have the facts on my side. And when I am wrong, I don't have a problem admitting it.

The truth is out there . . .

If you want cheap noise cut off the muffler, hp dosn't mean you have to sound like a weedwacker. Mine runs harder and is not louder then stock --or by much as for the price I guess I can buy the weedwaker for less then the cattman --- p.s this is why I don't post on this board much
