I've always had a fond place in my heart for the Lexus RX300. If you want big, get a new Escalade so you can put 24s on it and be bling-bling.

I've got an Expedition. Nice, w/ leather - very big.
4 years and nothing but scheduled maintenance. Very safe and ... did I mention big?

The new ones are nice, but if you don't want...yes you guessed it BIG.. then the Lexus offering is nice ($$$) and the Acura offering looks pretty good. Another good one is the Toyota Sequoia - but large simolies ($$$) for a Toyota.

OR...

You could get a new Maxima, hithch and a U-haul. Same thing!

I like the Chevy Trailblazer. That thing has a 270 HP I6 & looks pretty good too. Overall, I think that SUV's are rip-offs, they guzzle too much gas, eat tires up, and their on-road performance sucks. But that's just my opinion.

Highlanders are little don't look that great and have minimal power. I like the MDX, the RX300 is nice also but it seems every other suv on South Florida is an RX300. The new Trailblazer has a sweet powerplant but looks ugly to me. Lincoln is coming out with an SUV that is a little bit smaller than the Navigator that may be worth looking in to.

Re: Selling Max.....

My only suggestion would be to get your head examined. Max to SUV!?!?

Seriously though, I can tell you what not to get. A few weeks ago the wife and I had to go to Toronto so we rented a vehicle. We ended up getting stuck with a Buick Rendezvous. I really don't know who buys crap like this. Freaking thing was geared so tall (2100 rpm at 120 km/h) that the 4 spd auto was constantly dropping down a gear or two when we hit even the slightest incline.

If somebody put a gun to my head and absolutely forced me to buy a SUV, I think I would go for a Honda Pilot or a Pathfinder. Mazda Tribute is not too bad either, but you have the spectre of Ford engineering and reliability there.

Not that its any of my business, but are you really sure you need an SUV? The way I see it, there is very little an SUV does that an AWD wagon won't do for you as well, and you'll still be able to enjoy driving.

Lexus RX300 is a nice vehicle, but way to small for a SUV. My mom recently test drove a few cars, and the one she liked the most was the Acura MDX. Had the most power, and had the best handling. Didn't feel tipsy like the rest did.

They had one at our plant a couple of weeks ago. It looks pretty nice, but basically the same thing as a ford Explorer. In fact, they stamp the fenders and some of the other body panels at our plant (Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant) which are the same thing that go on the explorer. IMHO, save your $ and just buy the damn explorer.
