Should I get aftermarket Brakes?

Questions I have:

Can I get aftermarket rotors and use stock pads/calipers?

How much will a whole new brake set up cost?

Can I get new rotors and calipers/pads without changing the brakelines?

Which are the better brakes, Brembo or Stillen? Is the price on Stillen's website for 2 or 4 wheels?

Thanks, B

I got a nice 4 piston caliper set, lines, and slotted and drilled rotoers from precisionbrakes.com. There is/was a group buy going on in one of the forums for them.

I have no complaints.

If you're really interested in improving braking ability, the stainless steel brake lines and new brake pads will be the first thing you should do. Everything I've read (from reputable companies building brake systems, not from random org members) suggests that the pads and lines will effect braking most significantly.

If you are interested in the look of cross-drilled rotors then, yes, you can just switch the rotors but don't expect any significant increase in braking performance.

Disclaimer: This information is primarily due to my own reading and research but not because I'm an expert in brake systems. Oh, and no offense to random org members either...I realize some of you guys know what you're talking about.

How hard is it to replace the brake lines on an 02? Thanks.

From what I have read....The SS brake lines are a waste of money, unless you Road Race. As for upgrading the brakes, I got a set of Performance Friction pads for 32 bucks and turned my rotors. I couldnt be happier. Theses pads dont fade and stop much better than stock. The question is....Will they warp the rotors like the stock pads???

Well, you may not feel the difference significantly without having to do some heavy braking (which could happen in an emergency...not just in a road race), but the fact is that preventing the brake lines from expanding should ensure more effective transfer of power to the calipers themselves. That makes sense to me even when considered outside of the specific application of braking.
