You know this happens everytime a new car comes out

There ends up being more dislikes than likes. Now, I'm NOT sure how I feel about it. I want to see one in person.

BUT, when the 5th gen came out, everyone on the board was like blah, hate it, sucks, i'll keep my 4th gen thank you, etc.

Same thing with the new Z. All the TT guys were saying, I'll keep my 2 turbos, looks like a Hyndai, etc.

I'm convinced that its atleast in part, a self defense, against the newer, better car...so one doesn't feel bad about what they own. Flame away.

Hey..I hate 4th, 5th,......and 6th gens......I drive a 93!

I'm totally agreed w/you. Could be an "insecure" issue since the new Maxima will prolly be a BETTER car?

Unlike most, I loved the 5th gen when it first came out, and yes, I even liked the rear. In fact, at the time, this was the only dream car and I had that I could actually afford. The only car that has really grown on me that I didn't like was the 4th gen, cause I thought it had a stubby boxy appearance. IMHO it's nicer as a race car, but the 5th gen is nicer as a show car. I've always liked the 3rd gen and 2nd gens (my g-ma owns one), but I'm not too sure about the 6th gen. I don't care much for it. My 2 cents.

If I don't like a car from the beginning it RARELY grows on me. I didn't like the 5th gen when it came out and I still don't. The chances of me ever owning one is slim to none. Same w/ the 6th gen. Not gonna happen. The Z on the otherhand I love and would probably be the only other option for me as far as a Nissan goes...

Mike S, what you say makes alot of sense. But sometimes cars don't grow on people. Whoever said that "it depends if you like the Altima" is very true.
But sometimes car companies change more than just appearence from year top year, and from Generation to Generation. Sometimes they change an image of the automobile(Ecomonical, classy, sporty, luxury, muscle..."retro looking", "grocery - getter"...)A car comapny can cross these lines and loose the support of enthusiasts.
There is alot that makes up an "appeal" of a car for a enthusiast or potential buyer. Some people may grow to like style changes, but others can't get past that "something else", like with the altimas.
It is sad to see the pics of the new Maxima. It seems like it is loosing it's individuality and cashing in on the sexiness of the 350. Combining that with a 4 door car that was doing fine with it's own character traits is weak by designers. Just my .02 and I hope it grows on me

Okay, I tried not to hate the 6th gen. I took a shower, went out for a walk and cigarette and looked at it again. I still think that the 6th gen suck.

I agree. Sorry to bust anyones bubble, but cars shouldnt need "getting used to". I dont know, but in this case, I think people are responding this way because .....IT REALLY IS UGLY.
but I guess its just on of those "only a mother could love" things. sorry, just disappointed in nissan thats all.

It does look like a streched out Altima, I love the 3rd and 4th gen maximas, I dont like 5th gen, so most likely I wont like 6th gen.

The only thing stopping me from getting a 3rd gen, is the availability of actually finding a decent milege one for sale, and the lack of aftermarket parts (Turbos, SC, etc). 4th gen works fine with me, good style, still got that sporty power, and plenty of Aftermarket options.

Believe it or not, but there is a bigger aftermarket for 3rd gens, than the 4th. You can basically bum everything off the Z for them.

Well, all I would need now is a low milege 3rd gen, which shouldnt be too hard to find

The 2002 came out, everyone with a 2001 was ****ed. And now when the 2004 comes out, everyone with a 02-03 gets ****ed. It's a natural cycle.

I fell in love with the G35 Coupe the second I saw it.
So...not all cars are disliked at first

Actually, I like cars I haven't even seen (yet)...
Like New Ferraris, Lamborghinis, The new Mercedes 'S'series, Aston Martins, Loduses...
Need I go on?

i was waiting to see what the new maxima would look like so i would know what to decide to buy in about a 2 or 3 years durring college, and it seems like the Mazda 6 is looking like a sure bet now. I saw one at the mall and it looks pretty nice...and it's probably gonna be cheaper. but anything i could change my mind again...

I see what you're saying, I hated the G35, and it turned out to win awards and stuff and now I kinda want one too. But to be honest, the New max didn't come close to my expectations and I seriously doubt I'll ever except it because it seriously got off into some tangent. It tries to make it look like the Z/g35c... I dont like it. It just lost the MAXIMA definition, Character etc...

oh well what can you do..

It would have been A LOT worse if Nissan never came out with the 350Z.

I'll tell you one thing, the 6th gen may not look all that nice, but IMHO, it looks a hell of a lot better than the new Honda Accord that came out. Did anyone noticed that Honda scrambled to meet the Altima's 3.5 HP after if beat the older accord out of the water by about 20hp and to top it off, the newer accord v6 still ain't as powerful in torque ratings. On top of that, the front end looks like an altima rip-off.

Yeah, most new cars are ugly at first. Very few are immediate lookers. It just goes to show how fashion is dictated by the industry. These new ugly Nissans and Hondas are the future of car design. After we see it for a while, we'll be used to it and even start liking some of them. I didn't like 5th gens when they were new, now I own one.

Kind of lame, but it's the same with all fashion.

I felt the sam e way about the 5th gen. There are a few exceptions to the rules, ie, Z , but the exception is never the rule.

When I see three official letters from Nissan: AWD
That sum***** is mine!
I don't like the body style, honestly, I hate all styles after the 3rd gen, but I think the 6th looks better (Of course, better is a relative term) then the 4th and 5th gens... But the AWD is a selling point for me.

Hey, even my 9 yr old boy pointed out that the front wheel-well gap looks "4x4" bad. I think he's starting to get turned off from Maximas.

After reading the review about the '03 Accord from edmunds.com, they still preferred the performance of the Altima's 3.5L V6

In addition the back of the new Accord looks identical to that of a Saturn, so combine the back & size of a Saturn and the front of an Altima, and you've got yourself an Alturn instead of an Accord

Re: You know this happens everytime a new car comes out

Being and artist and designer for a living, not that it means much, but the first time I saw photos of the Altima on the net I thought it was a good looking car and was really considering buying one. When I went to the dealership the car just didn't look as good and when I got in it....forget about it. I always thought the 5th gen Max was good looking, but wasn't considering it because I thought it was much more $$$ than the Altima. Well, to make a long story short...I now drive a '02 SE. As for the 6th gen...me no likey.
