This makes me feel a lot better about the 2004, especially the front (although it looks like they just used Altima headlights).

Let's hope Nissan service improves!!!
Also, is it me, or does it look like the turn signals will be red? I personally hate how most of the American cars (and now some Japanese ones) have a turn signal that's red, instead of yellow. From the pics I've seen thus far, it looks like the entire taillight is red, so unless they have a red tint to the glass but it blinks yellow, it looks like it might be all red. I think the Jetta and Passat have all red taillights, but turn signals are yellow though.

If they're thinking of moving this car into the mid $30k's to compete with the Lexus ES300 and so forth, they better not be cost cutting.

I hope that bar in the center of the grill is just for cover. Otherwise it looks like a Mitsu Galant grill, and I don't like that.

I picked up on that too. There placed so far to the side of the car, It's hard to tell if they really are foglights....maybe it's a signal light or something I dunno...or maybe it's sort like our clearance lights, that light up the side of the road your turning into when you signal

The grill is ugly too! Definitely looks like a Galant.
Um, on the number 11 & 17 pics....
There is no spoiler. I know many were complaining about that cheap looking spoiler when the first pic made Nissan News.
Another thing, the Brian V pics done in may of this year show the exact same front end. That is very odd that they would actually do test runs of this ride that early in the year on public roads.

Altima XL
I like the rear, and the rims but the headlights are a carbon copy of the Altima, and the grille I'm not crazy about, overall it looks nice, but easily screams out Altima XL.... I'll give you credit on the pics

actually the teana headlamps have a diagonal cut on the corner whereas these slice the side the whole way. the headlamps look more reminiscent of 350z headlamps than anything else. but combined with that grille, they scream altima.

it's a big car...which I don't like...but aside from that:
- Rear end styling is nice...rear view is the best of the car. The dual twin tailpipes are a bit gawdy, but it looks alright. Nissan could have given a different treatment to the taillights themselves, but the outlying shape is nice and works with the car. The rear end works together unlike the previous two generations of Maximas.
- Side profile is pretty good but not great...rear of the car behind the rear wheels is too long but still "works" esthetically. The main problem is that the bulky rear quarter of the car, which looks good on it's own, does not match the thin front of the car. The rear ends up looking even bulkier. Nissan should have designed the front quarter panel with a less raked slope, ie more of a rounded, muscular slope over the front wheels. A little bit of a bulge to the hood would have helped also to add a more muscular, substantial front end.
- Front end is horrible. Plain and simple, the front is ugly, worse than any of the worst aspects of the 4th or 5th gens. I am utterly confounded as to how they arrived at that grill design. The lower bumper treatment/grill is aweful also. Very very very cheap. Actually, the front resembles the Mercury Sable. Compare http://plaza.ufl.edu/syrinx/maxima/2004/DSCN0016.JPG with http://www.mercuryvehicles.com/vehicles/sable and you'll see the resemblence. Blech!
I am officially done with Maximas. This car will be defunct within a matter of years due to a massive sales drop I anticipate with this new model. Not many people are going to pay $30K-up for a car that looks like that.
