G35 vs 04 Maxima

What is the advantage of a Max from now on?
It is a similar price to the G35
Infiniti service is real service.
Same 3.5L engine.
Major diff is front vs rear drive.
G35 looks better.
G35 will soon have a manual.

This belongs in the 6th Generation Forum.

Additionally, there are not enough details on the 04 Max to compare it to anything.

6th Geneartion Max is a true AltiMax, that's all that we need to know. Visited my loacl Infiniti dealership last month, those folks are way nicer than even Lexus salesmen. If it was a $1-2K difference between equally equipped Max and an Infiniti, I'd drop the xtra $$$ hands down.

I'd pay for the customer service that Infiniti provides over Nissan!

I would go infinity too, no question....Only one problem for me. The closest Infinity dealer is 80 miles away....that is a pain in the butt Had the G35 been out when I bought my alti...I would not be driving an alti

I think that is a reason why Infiniti does sell a lot of cars because their dealership are few and far inbetween. That will be one of the factor in the 6th gen. maxima favor. There are just more Nissan dealers than Infiniti and I see alot of Inifiniti cars in the Nissan service dept because the closest Infiniti dealership is 60 miles away.

1)G35 is smaller than current Maxima. And 04 Max is going to be larger. So, sizewise they are in different classes.

2) Similar prices? Come on. We all know how it goes with Nissan. Rebates, hidden incentives... Most of people, who bought late 02, paid close to or less than dealer invoice (way below MSRP) minus $1000 rebate and on the top of that they had low APR on financing.
Nissan and Mazda always did that. First, they put sticker prices which were close or even higher than major competitors, let us say Toyota & Honda. But at the end of the day they sold them for several grands less. One of bad consequences of this strategy was that auto-reviews almost always gave awards to Toyota & Honda, as they compared cars with close stickers.
Anyway, I never had experience with Infiniti. My best guess is you will have to pay close to the sticker there. Please, correct me if I am wrong. Therefore, with "similar prices" Maxima is going to be $3-4k cheaper.

The advantage the Maxima will have is size; it's a lot bigger than the G35. And for a lot of people buying sedans, size matters.

I know alot of people are going to disagree but I'm starting to think the new max is better looking than the G35 sedan. The coupe is a different story. I'll take the G35 coupe over the 350z.

Since the G35 got Motor Trend car of the year negotiating a great deal might might require a little patience. I would wait a few months then see how they deal. Infinti also comes with a better warranty, 4 years and 60,000 miles and they provide free loaners. I keep getting the feeling the 04 Maxima is trying to compete with the Toyota Avalon, all they need now is to make a bench seat optional in the 04 for the old ladies purses. They are pursuing a shrinking market, the average age of a Town Car buyer is 70 plus years! If I were buying a car today I would seriously consider the Acura, Honda and Toyota. I have been driving Maximas and I30s for 8 years and have owned 4 different ones. Toyota and Honda have managed to keep the quality of their cars up when they moved manufacturing to the US. Nissan appears to have stumbled a bit, my daughter bought her 3rd Altima, a 2000 GLE. She had 2 new ones prior to it. She is very disappointed in its fit and finish and has had numerous problems. She will not buy American built Nissan again. I was selling Nissans when Renault bailed them out. Quite frankly their cars haven't been the same. The quality we all appreciated in the 3rd and 4th gens is gone. If the G35 is made in Japan I would very strongly consider it!

I agree with the above post regarding Nissan's decline in quality since being bought by renault but disagree with the root cause as being made in the USA vs Japan.
The root cause, IMO, is that Nissan implemented low cost part and component purchaing by Nissan buyers with little regard to how these components meet engineering or system integration specs. Witness the almost universal Nissan issues of rattles, wind noise and cheap interiors across the entire Nissan and Infiniti product line. This also explains Nissan's new and relative adversion to fixing, redesigning or authorizing repairs when there is a real problem. It costs a minor fortune as it now affects so many vehicles as many common parts are used across the entire Nissan/Infiniti platform.
I also agree that I will be looking to other OEMs for my next new car purchase. And I have been a loyal Nissan fan for years having owned over 15 Nissan vehicles.

I hadn't thought of it that way, I think you are probably right, the American worker proved it could be done by what they did for VW, Honda and BMW. I never tied the Renault acquisition to the quality of products being built. The family has owned 11 new Nissan products
since 94, Altimas, G20, Maximas and I30. I don't see us buying Nissan
again!
