04 Maxima at CES (!?!) & link to some pics

Strangely enough, there was an 04 Maxima in the North Hall at LVCC at CES. It was at the XM Radio booth along w/an Infiniti FX45. I'll post some pics when I get back home (I don't wanna upload them at 14.4 kbps via my cell phone).

I felt the interior was ok and exterior was fine except for the ugly buck tooth on the front (I got the same impressions from the official Nissan photos). I'm gonna go back to look at the interior again.

If anyone here is at CES and is interested, go check it out!

I just got back from CES last night. Saw the 04 Max and was not impressed at all. In fact, I'm really glad that I have my 02. The grill is absolutely terrible and the rest of the car is pretty plain (like a giant Altima). The interior is very "modern day" Nissan a.k.a. ugly, spacey and metallic. The power folding mirrors are a gimmick. The sky roof doesn't hold a candle to a traditional roof. The only highlight - 245/45 18's.

Actually, after having been to CES twice, I can say there's very little in the way of video games shown there. It's mostly audio/video equipment, digital cameras, camcorders, DVD, TVs (from CRT to DLP and plasma), car stereo stuff, etc.

The place to go to see console and computer games is E3, usually held in LA. If you wanna see console games and TONS of booth babes, way more than E3 (all Japanese, not that it's a bad thing), go to Tokyo Game Show.

I put up some pics that I took at CES of the 04 Maxima there. Go to http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=4290826887 Unfortunately, you'll have to join Imagestation (it's free to join) to view them. They started doing that recently. I've put up some reduced versions on my personal web space.

I had a hard time getting decent shots due to my cam's flash being useless, so I turned it off, but that meant slow shutter speeds and it being very easy to get blurry shots.

Overall, I feel that the interior is very Altima-like, but it's hard for me to compare to my Max since I have a light interior. Materials seem decent overall and interior is not as bad as the Altima. The steering wheel now can both tilt and telescope electically. There's a little joystick on the steering column. I like how they moved the on, off, door switch for interior lights to the front light. I noticed that there were two cupholders in the rear armrest which aren't on my 2K2. However, on the car they had at CES, those cupholders looked REALLY cheap and unfinished, like they weren't a final part. The door covering the cupholders seemed slightly misaligned too.

For the trunk, they now went to the better gas strut design instead of the old space robbing hinges. I totally forgot to look to see if the HIDs are held in place any better.

The air intake path looks a little more direct. No doubt this helped add some power.

They got great shots. Too bad I didn't have better equipment (Nikon Coolpix 995, no tripod, no external flash) when I took mine.

These interior shots from familycar.com are leading me to rethink my opinion on the interior of this car. This looks pretty darn good to me! I did notice at the Nashville car show (which did NOT include an 04 Maxima!) that most interiors, from BMW and down, are going to this pebbly/grainy kind of dash texture. To that end, Nissan is right there with the best of them.

I do wish it were a more mainstream cowl dash; could get use to the pods, but I'd never pick them over the current style. But you know this interior is looking pretty darn good. Nissan's press photos I think don't do the car justice. These shots are much better in a way. I'm looking forward to seeing the real thing.

srm

No kidding! I got this email notification of an update to this thread and I was like..."what?". I haven't driven a Maxima in 4 years! Brought back good memories of my Max, though...

But after so long...shouldn't threads be "dead"? lol
