Why do you think they are specifying the engine size on the new Max if only one engine size is available? I would speculate that different engine size options are being considered for future Max's.
They did not do this in previous years, to my knowledge. I just thought it was odd they changed the badge that way.

 

Thats because a V8 in 2005 or 2006 will be much...much larger ...if you KNOW what I MEAN

 

Because they do it on most of their current offerings including the Altima(2.5,3.5),Pathfinder(3.5) all are 3.5 now,Sentra although they didnt do it with the 02/03 Max.

 

I think they do it to mimic the way BMW and Mercedes Benz badge their cars.

bimmer and mercedes badge their cars differently....mercedes badges according to the displacement of the motor, i'm not sure what bimmer badges on(i think its just from cheapest to best)
