Any track times yet?

I wasn't able to find any track times for the 04's yet.

Has anyone taken their 04 to the track yet? and ran?

I'm curious on the outcome after driving a 6spd 04 last week. The car seems to handle better despite it's weight, but It didn't seem to pull as hard (I did take it through redline in each gear and nearly smoked the tires in 1st). Maybe because it was not broken in yet??

thanks.

I CANT wait to see track times for a 5 spd auto or a 6spd se maxima 04 of course... my father just baught a 04 max with the elite pachage with the 5spd auto.. it pulls hard.. i ran a 15.3 with my spec v with just intake, and it would walk me.. so i am really curious on how it runs, mag times lie big time about cars, id say if an 03 max auto can run 14.4 stock i would say its close to that. how much do the 03 and 02 maximas weigh??

ok as far as i can see the auto 03 is 3274.. and the auto 04 se is 3478, thats a difference of 204 pnds.. so i would tend to think every 100 pnds equals up to a 10th of a second in the 1/4.. but as far as i know the gearing in the 5spd auto is alittle better than the 03 4spd.. so as far as i can tell it might be equal...

the reason i said 14.4 ive seen a bone stock 03 auto se, run a 14.4 at the track in april.. he avg 14.7s with gate shifting right before redline he got the 14.4. with shifting right at redline he was getting 14.6s and 14.7s... it ran good

I can believe this..but I wouldn't consider the 14.4 average.

My best of 14.6 happened when I bounced of the rev limiter in 1st. If I was a split second quicker in shifting out of 1st, I feel I could have better my time.

With favorable track conditions and almost perfect shifting I believe us AUTOS are mid 14 sec cars.

I still don't have an answer yet on my original question? track time for 04 manuals? why are there no track times yet??

Cartest supposedly has it faster than my '03 GLE. I know I bought the fattest 5th Gen Max, but the dang '04 is still heavier, and it's power to weight isn't much different. It's got to be in the gearing!

I think it will be slower in spite of gearing. Add 200 lb of curb weight. Now it has 18" rims which will add even MORE drag. And then there's only 10 more "claimed' horsepower and torque, but who knows how it was really rated. Plus all of that extra weight will make it much more difficult to hookup on a hard launch and actually get a decent 60' time.

I'm waiting for a dyno or timeslip or anything also.

100 lbs = 0.1 sec. rarely applies. For cars in the Maxima weight and horsepower range, I'd say 100 lbs. is 0.2-0.3 seconds. On a day when my dad's powertrain stock 1996 Bonneville S/C that ran 14.6x @ 94.x mph in a magazine closed test session (see High Perf. Pontiac 10/97), the addition of a 160 lb. person just slowed times to 15.3 @ 93.x mph with similar 60 foot times. If I had done a battery of runs with and without a passenger, I'm sure the differences would've averaged out to about 0.5 seconds and 1.5 mph.

I am sure the combination of better gearing plus more horsepower is enough to offset the 200 lbs, IMHO

I can understand this in the auto tranny, but what about the manual. Does anyone know if the gearing is different on the manual 04s from the 02/03?

If the same, I would think the 02/03 manuals would have an advantage with weight.

Good point, I don't think the 10 HP alone will make up for the 200 lbs.

IIRC, the gearing in the 6 speeds is the same...final drive will be different b/c of the 18" wheels I think, but gearing is =
