HLSD?? Should I...

Ok when i bought my car it had every option i wanted except for HLSD. Im thinking about buying it from the local dealer and having them install it. is it worth the money? Oh and would the dealer do the installation for free since i have a warranty or would they cover that?

You should have found a car with HLSD already as an option on it. I doubt the dealer would even bother installing HLSD (is that even possible to install this as an aftermarket upgrade?)...

dont quote me on this but i am sure that the HLSD is inside the transaxle. therefore they would have to pull motor and tranny and install tranny with HLSD equipped then reinstall motor.

I think you're dreaming in technicolor. Why would the dealer perform what has to be a complex installation (assuming it's even possible) for free just because you have a warranty? There's nothing broken on your car, is there?

Someting free at a Nissan dealer? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No.

Because the car did not come with it they will void your tranny warranty. It will cost you about $800 or more just to buy the unit. They will charge you about 8 hours of labor to install it. And that's if they agree to do it. Your only feasible option is to find a RS6F51H from a donor car and have a 3rd party install it.

Yes, you ASKED. And I answered. My answer took the form of a rhetorical question. This, perhaps unsirprisingly, seems to have been completely lost on you. In retrospect, I think that "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" would indeed have been a better response.

Agreed,

There is no way you are going to get this done cheaply, nevermind for free. The cheapest part of this entire process would probably be the part, which is probably nearly impossible to get right now.

Sorry man, these guys are right... this is a decision that should be made before buying the car. It is like going to manual from auto, or deciding you want blue when you bought red.

I haven't put my max on a lift yet. But I can tell you a few general things that are most likely true here.

The Differential normally bolts onto the tranny allowing for them to be split apart. Most of the time you can do this in the car, sometimes you can't.

Adding the Limited slip will not void you tranny warranty. (the part is factory engineered for the tranny, car, and engine combo. Anyways they'd have to prove that the problem came from later install of their own unit.) The differetial's warranty possibly could be void, chances are slim however, if you had a dealer install it. If for some reason your differential failed and needed to be replaced under warranty, you could most likely request that it be replaced with a HLSD unit, they may do it, for free none the less, or they may not.

The differential is what is at risk moreso then the tranny if you intend on making more power then stock and drive hard. Wheel hop destroys diff FAST.

Labor on a diff replacement will run you between 5 and 10 hours, at around 60-100 bucks an hour. Getting a dealership to do it, may be another hard task.

Basically, it'd probably be cheaper or at least close to just trade the car in and get one with HLSD as opposed to having the dealer install it.

I think it's ridiculous that the stupid thing isn't standard equipment on the 6spds. It bloody well ought to be for Nissan's "flagship" sedan which is now more expensive than ever...

Worse yet, it's not even an option if you get the nav system.

^ Wow, that basically means there is no such thing as a fully loaded 6th gen. LSD should come on every new car IMO, its just too good to not have.
