De-badging your 04 Max

I was thinking about de-badging my '04 (rear only) but I would like to see some pictures of it first and maybe get some opinions too. I really like the rear of the car but I'd like to remove the "maxima" and "3.5 SE" badges, probably leaving the Nissan emblem. I looked through the photoshop but I couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Just a thought for now.

Take a look in the Hail-Damaged Maxima post, MaximaGirl has removed her 3.5 SE badge, but not the Maxima badge. I was also thinking of doing this when I get the grille with no logo.

People would probably think it's some new Lexus or Mercedez with no Nissan emblems on it

Hey QuickSilver,

do you have a picture of your car? I have the same car and can't wait to get the windows tinted. Probably 20% all-around and 50% down the front, I know it probably looks damn good just wanted to see it if possible.

i prefer no badges...you'd be surprised at how many people know the 04 maxima...even without the emblems i am approached about the car and everyone calls it by name...there was a guy in cardomain.com that debadged everyting except for the nissan logo, but i couldn't find him...
2004 max pics

i have other pics at:

Nice, thanks for the pics. I'm still not sure if I like it better with or without. Atleast I've got a pic now. Thanks again.

I de-badged mine over the w/e. Ran into a problem on the spoiler however. The Nissan emblem attaches to the rear spoiler, which has two location dimples molded in, so when the badge was removed you are looking at two ugly holes. I will be removing the spoiler and carrying it to a local body shop to fill the holes and paint the spolier. A little overboard, but I like the clean look of a "badgeless" Max.

Today, I removed the "Maxima" and the "3.5 SE" from the back of my frost white '04. Looks absolutely fantastic!

Excuse the lack of knowledge- but how did you remove the badging without removing the paint?

The badges are put on with double sticky tape...keep in mind this tape is industrial strength and very hard to pull off. How you get the badge off is up to you but be careful not to scratch the paint if you're using a pic tool or razor blade. Once the badge is removed you should still have some black tape stuck to the car. Use thinner to remove the tape and glue safely from the paint. Once you've completely remove the tape and glue with the thinner, you need to immediately wax the spots.

Hope this helps, just remember to be very careful. If you're really unsure about doing it yourself you can take the car to a detail shop and have them remove it for you. It probably wouldn't cost more then about $15 - $20 to remove the badges.

Use a string to saw them off. Monofiliment line works too. I've had the best results with a piece of heavy cotton string. Snag the string between the badge and the paint and 'saw' through the double sticky foam stuff. You will be left with an ugly white foam badge. At this point I use WD-40 or something like it to loosen the glue. I use my fingers to roll the foam off. Finally use a soft cloth and WD-40 to remove the last traces of glue. Then wash and wax. It takes all of 10 minutes.

check out page 3 on my site. i personally like it better with out the maxima and the 3.5 se decals on it. i used a peice of wire with rubber coating over it. a heat gun to make the adhesive soft and some goof off to get the extra gunk off of it. then waxed it up nice and shiny

Yeah, that actually looks pretty good in the pics. But I'd still like to see it in person. Once you remove the badges it's a pain in the butt to put them back on.

Wire with rubber coating? I just can't seem to visualize how that worked. What else could I use to do mine? I'm going to do the same, what's the best way to heat it up, hairdryer work? Not sure I have a heat gun, I might. What's a good way to get the gook off after you take the badges off? Get it hot and wipe it off? Thanks for the info...

i did it with a plastic mini 'yes' bar..it's like a crow bar about 12 inches long...

the best way to do it is to use a hair dryer and heat the adhesive up and use dental floss to saw it off like bluemaxxx says.

be careful, you can bubble up your paint if you heat it up too much.

i used polishing compound to take off any residuals...then waxed it after...

i would stay away from the razor blade...it is not needed on this car.

Paint thinner is for removing paint, not adhesives. Use lighter fluid etc then rubbing alcohol for getting any oil off.

Just look at them.......unless you are going to bondo the indenting that is going to be there, then I would say to leave them be.

hmmmmm If you're harsh while taking them off then yeah, but otherwise I would say no.

Heat it up to make it a little easier for you, just be careful not to burn yourself.

Then use some goo-gone or adhesive remover to get the tape crap off.
