Performance Tires

Has anyone upgraded their tires to a ultra high performance tire? Would anyone expect a significant improvement in handling and acceleration with better tires? Or are the stock Goodyears pretty good.

The stock tires seem to be ok, but they feel a little slippery. Buy another set of wheels and use the stock tires during the winter months.

Thats what I was thinking. Use the stock tires for winter and get some summer tires for March-November. I know I can spin the stock tires from a slow roll only pushing the gas pedal maybe halfway down...stickier tires have to help the 0-60 time. I'm considering the Dunlop sport 9000's, Goodyear eagle F1's, and the Bridgestone Potenza pole positions.

I have the Dunlop Sport 9000's on my 99 Max. Nice quiet tires that grip the dry road well. On wet roads, they are a little slippery but still better than the stock tires that came with it. The thread pattern is kinda neat too. I haven't tried the others so I can't give you an opinion there..

Hi folks,
Dealer replaced my Goodyear's with a set of Ultra hi perf Michelin Sport A/S's (due to vibration/shimmy issue). They definitely feel like a better match for the car but they have a noticeable whine to them. If I wasn't planning on needing all seasons I would have possibly tried the GY F-1's. They get good reviews.

By the way, it helped the vibration issue but didn't touch the shimmy in the front end - service visits still ongoing.

With all due respect to Blue04SEinIL, I believe that your advice is wrong.

Based on my research, I have come to believe that the stock tires perform like crap in the snow. In dry/wet conditions, they perform adequately, but not well.

If you live in snow country, I urge you to get a set of real (TM) snow tires. The ones I have chosen are the Dunlop Winter Sport M2 in size 225/55 R17. This is a speed rated snow tire and the narrower width gets you better traction in the snow. With a set of six-spoke aluminum wheels, the package (including road force balancing) will be costing me $1220 at my local Discount Tires.

Next spring, I plan to replace the stock tires with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires, which have been getting rave reviews.

Hello all
I have been lurking at this site for a long time, I appreciate all the good information that is available here. Long-live Maxima.org!!
Recently replaced OEM Goodyears with Brigestone S-03 Pole positions. Much better tire than OEM. Had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my 02 Max, my initial impression is that the S-03's & the pilot sports are about equal, but the Brigestones were about $200/ea, Michelins were $260. Also, the tire rack forum on freshalloy.com rated the S-03 as the best high performance tire they sell. Very satisfied so far with them.
