orange gauges

Anyone else find the orange hard to read at night? Also, they are on the small side - I have 2003 Max GXE and am seriously thinking of getting a 2004 SE 6Speed. I find the 2003 panel great but not the 2004.
Anyone know if any inserts are available yet to change the orange to white with a different font ( if that's the correct word ) for the numbers.
ALso, any Canadians out there who have ordered a new 2004 and have managed to get the wiring harness and attenna for the XM satelite radio installed when their car was built? I live in Winnipeg and apparently truckers who have XM can get reception in Thompson which is 400 miles north. North of Winnipeg radio stations are terrible. You can get XM if you have a U.S. address to give them.
Any help with these questions would be helpful. I would have bought a new 2004 last night but there are very few 6 speeds and none in the colour combo I wanted hence the probable factory order. Also this year in order to get HID's you have to get leather which sucks at -40 in the morning - go figure - and HID's with the critters on the road here could be a lifesaver. On my 2003 the HID's are excellent and I wouldn't want to be without them.
Many thanks.

Dave

I haven't found them hard to read yet, but I don't like the orange as well as the display in my 2k1.

I don't like the orange either, but I can't believe they could just change it with an "insert." That would be cool if it were possible, but I think the new panel uses LEDs instead of standard light bulbs. But then, if I had a 2003 Max, I wouldn't be ready for a 2004 Max yet anyway! Also, I think all the leather seats are heated (mine are) so you should be ok, even if you have to get leather.

Too bad you're getting rid of the 5th gen so soon. I hope you like the 6th. Let us know, and show us pics of it.

The front seats in mine (SL) are heated, and the heater actually kicks in fairly quickly, Ive only used it twice just to see how it feels, but i bet it'll defrost those seats pretty quickly. Too bad there's no feature on the keyless remote to activate that before you get in the car, but i guess you can just get your car started, with the heater and defroster on, and flip the seat-heater switch a few minutes before you get in.

Speaking of the gauges, they've been pretty easy to read for me, but I dont like the orange, thats why i was never interested in BMW's, hate that red color in their gauges. Anyways, would love to see white or white/blue combo, something like that.

I think the gauges are too bright for my tastes. Even turned all the way down at night they are a bit too bright.

I do like to turn everything off at night if I'm on cruise control and not worried about my speed. Turning the dashboard/gauge lights off and shutting down the display screen too. Its a neat effect.

Ugh! I keep forgetting the 04 Max has those nasty orange gauges. I had an old 300ZX with orange and hatted it. Why in the world of any color in the world would Nissan want you to look at a hot dash board with ORANGE colors...it just don't fit in with the over all look and class of the car. My current 91 Max has white light on white/black face and is most pleasing to the eye and the look of the interior of the car at night.

I'm with "chrisaust"...just give me a simple but smart looking white or white/blue combo. Don't "try" to flash me with wacked colors.

I'm contemplating on a project for my 2k2 gauges right not, the same idea may also apply to you guys - though i'm not particularly sure if it's possible.

Anyway, i figured if we could get right behind the face itself - it might be worth it to some to apply some EL Strips there. Most computer shops sell these for about $8/strip (roughly 6" long for most).

Since the power/switch unit can sit anywhere outside the gauge - the strips won't have an issue of clearance or space.

Again, that's assuming we can get to the area immediately behind the face.
