Air intake for 2004 Maxima

I am looking to buy a air intake for my maxima. I already did the stereo today. NO NOT THE HEAD UNIT! I am not impressed with Frankencar intake, because there is never any answer on the phones. Cell or work! So who else out there makes something like there product? I would like to order today and install it tomorrow night. Anyone know how loud it is? I don't want it to loud. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks all. As soon as I am done I will post pics! BTW I have a blue maxima and want the intake to at least be blue if that is possiable.

You can order the Frankencar intake in blue, red, yellow, black or just the normal unpainted. I have the unpainted, and it looks good in the engine, isn't too loud at all (its a nice sound when you accelerate, you know the engine's there, but it doesnt overpower anything). Why would you want a blue intake when nothing else inside the engine is blue? Unless you're gonna paint and wallpaper the rest of the engine to match, or put up some nice crown molding along the underside of the hood, it'll look a LOT better just keeping it looking like the rest of your engine. Check out pics of mine at www.chrisaustin.us/car.html Also, what did you do to your stereo? Add a sub/amp combo?

Yes I added a JL amp with two 10's in a box. I am going to change the speakers and put in JL's as well with a another JL 4 channel amp. I am working on the mod for the factory stereo system. I am waiting to get all my stuff done before I post pics.

I am not sure about ordering from Frankencar, because they only ship ground and on top of that I can't get a hold of anyone to talk too, so I can see if they can over night it. Is it hard to install? I just want to take off the old air filter and put the CAI on.

I know really nothing about working on cars, never have, and this really wasn't very much trouble for me to put on. Just take apart everything, fit this intake on piece by piece, make sure you tighten everything REALLY well, and you're good to go. When they shipped to me, they shipped via the Postal Service, instead of UPS, so it got here much quicker than it would have, only 3 days I think, and since you're on the East Coast, it should only be 2.

chrisaust, can you tell me exactly what you ordered from frankencar? I see there are several prices and different packages as far as apexi and k&n. Can you tell me exactly what to purchase for the apexi setup like yours and the exact prices? Would like to have the same setup but again know ones answers at frankencar to help answer my questions. Should I fell safe sending them my money? Please help. Thanks

I got the full-pipe Apexi setup.... it cost me $190 i think, plus shipping. Yes, I agree they are bad at returning calls, but they are really nice if you reach them on the phone, just keep calling, dont bother leaving messages. I was even surprised because when I received my intake, they were supposed to include a longer hose, so I called and he said he'd send one out. Well I just assumed I'd never get it so I went to AutoZone and bought one for like a buck... Needless to say, about 4 days later the hose arrived in the mail, I was very pleasantly surprised! So I would say go for it, I got everything I paid for, and even though it took awhile, I'm happy now with everything. I don't know if I'd buy anything from them again unless they were the ONLY ones that had something that i REALLY wanted, but they followed through on everything they offered.

Just to let you all know I called Frankencar for the last time. NO ONE ANSWERS! So I read the post from Steve from Southwest autoworks. I waited a while and then I called. Alex was the one on the other line, and answered every single newbie question I had! He explained the horsepower gain the installation and if I had any issues to please call back and they would take care of it. The biggest thing that suprised me was is Alex (who I found out was the owner) also has a Maxima! Nice guy and you can tell they are in business for there customers. I am to old to try and run down people with my credit card (Frankencar).

Just a note as a business owner to Frankencar, Have you phone call forwarded to someone who will answer it!

I am now a Southwest Autoworks consumer.

the pop charger screws onto the MAF adapter. im not sure if SWauto has a bracket to secure it, but i bought the charger back in 01 from courtesey nissan for my 00 but did some research and found out it fits onto the 04 as well. i just needed to tinker around and make it stay in place.

Amen!
They really SUCK. My brother was in town for a week and we were going to install the intake while he was here. I tried calling, emailing several times and never got a response from those clowns.
What a way to do business!

OK, Southwest autoworks sent the CAI unit. Everything is there and and I paid for 2 day air and the overnighted it! That's Customer service. I wanted to know how do you clean this thing and how often? Is this hard to install? Meaning is it hard to take off the old unit? There are only 4 bolts on the JWT pop charger so I think I can handle that. They also sent a mounting bracket to bolt to the cars chassis. Am I missing anything? Any help would be appreciated! Stereo is done front grill is done and the windows are now limo tinted!!!!!!!!! This is the last step for me. I might get Rims and the tire store I went to said I can put 22's on this ride. NO WAY! I may go with 18's or 20's not sure. Thanks again.

I Hack, it was pretty easy to install... unscrew the one bolt holding down the stock air filter cover, remove that, the air filter, and the bottom black plastic part.... then you just attach the new CAI to the end of the black tube, where that sensor is plugged in. Pretty basic, just make sure everything is nice and TIGHT!

I'd really be interested in seeing the dyno with the CAI.

I hope for your guys sake that the 04 MAF isn't quite as sensitive as the 02/03's are. You may want to search around the 5th gen forum and read up a bit. Then again no other VQ35's have had this type of problem . . .
