Question about the heat/ac

I live in Boston, and since it's starting to get cold out I guess I atcually have to use my heat. Used my heat for the first time today, cranked it up to 90 and just hit auto, but I noticed that when I did that, the "A/C" button turned on. So I switched it off, hit auto again, and it turned it back on. Why is that? The air seems to come out the same temp either way, so it's no big deal, but isn't the A/C button only supposed to activate when you want the air cold? Goofy question, I'm just curious.

Defrost especially, but when cold and you set high temps the AC may / will come on to remove moisture from the interior air. Heats better that way and helps from fogging up the windows. The AC system whether cold or hot is a de-humidifier..

good question

That is a good question, I also was wondering that. We all know the the A/C robs HP so does anyone know that if the A/C light is one it is spinning the compressor?

Ive also noticed that when its cold and you turn the temp up on Auto, the heat wont come on right away, which i realized is kind of a nice feature, it wont start blowing air until the engine's warmed up as well, so its not just blowing really cold air at first and then heat after that.

Have you noticed that there is no button "Heat" or "Cool", only temperature settings and A/C on/off? Air conditioning is on for heat and for cool. I guess they are using the true meaning of the term "air conditioning", which isn't simply cool but is the conditioning of the air to your preference. So whether you want heat or cool, you must turn on the "air conditioning system".

Power is cut to the a/c clutch at WFO throttle.
