Exhaust for '04!?

Has anyone installed an exhaust on their '04. skeptical to put one on because I'd have to install 2 mufflers. It'd be loud in other words. Does anyone have any suggestions on exhaust or the note/sound it the dual mufflers would produce.

Why would 2 mufflers make it louder? Wouldn't it make it quieter?

I believe he is reffering to the dual muffler design that we already have, just talking about replacing the mufflers with a more aggresive muffler. I also want an exhaust and im hoping frankencar will make an exhaust like there 5th gen that they just previously released. Except having dual mufflers instead of just a single. If you do go custom please provide us with some sound clips.

Except for the fact the maxima puts out less power than the 350, so you wouldn't hear that same sound anyways.

The power doesn't make a difference with the sound. The volume of air does. The differences would not be very noticeable. If you replaced the cats with high flow ones, you probably would be close to the Z's output. Remember these engines are pretty much the same except the emmisions output which is combonation of the cats and the fuel and timing curves.

the difference would be the length of the pipeing to. in the exhaust note.

its going to be considerably close to the sound of the 350z, a little lighter but it will sound nice

Would the 350z mufflers even fit? Its a different design altogether I think. If it did it would be sweet.

I've never really paid any attention to the 350Z exhaust, since it's factory I figured it'd sound like the Max or at least it'd be quite. When I get my exhaust I'm just going to have to decide by what people suggest since I'm from ARKANSAS, a BIG farm town at that. So everyone round here has big loudass lifted 4x4s. One of my friends does have an '01 Max with the 3.0 and a Lawson exhaust. There's not the slightest bit of ricey sound coming from it but he's chopped off his resonator so it drones quite a bit around 2 grand. I thought it it would be twice as loud as his if used that exhaust because I would have 2 mufflers producin the sound and not jus one CANADIANMOFO. But i dunno. I jus dont one somethin incredibly loud so I thought I'd get a rather quite muffler because whatever I buy is gonna be twice as loud as someone tells me it's gonna be. i WANT SOMETHIN REALLY AGGRESIVE SOUNDIN and ON THE DEEP SIDEAND WITH NO RICEYNESS WHAT SO EVER. I can deal with a lil bit of dronin but not the ricey sound. If anyone has a suggestion or an exhaust they like. PLEASE PLEASE let me know somethin soon and if u have a/some wav. files that'd be great too. I'd like to get an exhaust by this weekend and yes I will post sound clips GLUDE!

Well from what I know there isnt a full aftermarket catback for the 04 yet. Your best bet would be going to your local muffler shop and get a custom made catback. Most 5th gens and many altimas seem to like the sound and quality of magnaflow and many local muffler shops around here carry them. If you wanted performance im sure you could get the full piping done and remove that stock resonator and put a magnaflow resonator in its place and this would keep the exhaust note quieter. Also some high flow cats if your looking for power. I dunno maybe that will give you an idea of what can be done. Good luck!

I appreciate it! I know for a fact they carry Lawson, Magnaflow and Flowmaster. It may sound weird that I mentioned flowmaster, but I've HEARD that the 80 series Flowmaster muffler sounds damn good on a Max. The only Magnaflows I've heard are my cousin's. He has them on a '94 300 ZX I think is what the hell it is, the last previous 350Z generation maybe. Anyways, that baby sure does like to pop especially with the silencers out! I'm gonna go to our local muff shop tomorrow tho and see what he has and come back and get on the net and try to find some wav. files or somethin. This is a REALLY big deal to me to get an exhaust because the Max is luxury car and I want it to sound good cuz if it does it'll give the luxury car a more sporty feel, look and sound. And a BIG HEAD!

I got my exhaust today, I bought a duo set of 80 series flowmasters......... and they sound sweeeeett!!!!! They have the extremely aggressive sound with a the deep tone. NO RICEYNESS whatsoever. I can't complain one bit. It does have a little bit of droning because I had the resonator taken off bout 2 months ago. But I go to school at russelville and i'm home in blytheville for turkey day. but when i get back to school im gonna get it put on jus to see what kind of difference it makes. it only costs 20 bucks to have it put on then have 'em cut it right back off!!!! HOW DOES i PASTE >WAV FILES ON HERE!?!?!

woah woah woah, sorry bout that I erased the wrong typo on my previous thread. sorry guys. I decided between the flowmaster 80 series, lawson, apc, megan racing, magnaflow and some Bomz ****. I bought and had the LAWSON EXHAUST put on on!!! not the flowmaster the LAWSON!! I highly recommend this exhaust......it has the SOUND #1, PREFORMANCE GAINS #2 AND OF COURSE IT LOOKS GREAT . since im typin another thread i'll go ahead and tell u about it. already told you about how it sounds but i left out the idle part, it sounds good!! haha it seriously does tho, it's not quite but it's not loud either enough to tell theres definately an exhaust on it. performance wise I can tell the power gains, it climbs quite a bit more quickly to and thru the rpm range. has more low-end spin the tire power! AND THE LOOKS..........WOW, almost looks jus like the factory except except the tips are a little bit bigger and the chrome/mirror finish looks fantastic especially since the tips now take up all clearance room in the factory cutout area in the bumper. ALL IN ALL I DON'T THINK I COULD BE MORE SARISFIED!! now to satisfy some of you, how do i put the wav. files on here

OK, 04_LiquidMax, you sound like a happy camper indeed!

Now, care to share which Lawson part numbers you had installed, who did the work, and what the whole job cost you?

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Yes I would like to see pics and sound clips whenever you get a chance. I might possibly be doing a custom exhaust at a local muffler shop soon but I want it to be a a quiet setup with hopefully a decent gain in power.

I took pictures and got sound clips from my new exhaust. Yet I dont know how to post them onto this forum or any other forum at that . Elite I jus visited the Lawson Industries site, didn't know they had one and I think we have a problem. Not one of those mufflers are identical to mine...in fact the Magnaflow #14861 at http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/m...reetseries.htm is the exact match to what I have on my car. I'm gonna have to pay Mr. Turner a little visit tomorrow at Turner Muffler in town. I didn't stay to watch the install because the lady said it would be another hour or so until he could start on it and the install would take around 2 hours or so. So I jus dropped it off. And when I picked it up Mr. Turner had already gotten off so I didn't get to talk to him bout my exhaust. Yet When I payed for the exhaust they charged me $317.53 for everything and my cousin that has a '02 Max he had a Lawson installed and it's the one I asked for and he chargerd him somethin like $90 bucks for everything . I didn't get any boxes with my receipt either. I didn't pay any attention to the tips to see if they had anything written on them b/c I kno my cousins didnt so I didn't expect for them to have anything on them. My dad is in my car right now and I'm gonna go check everything out when he brings it back. I'm kinda thinkin he didn't give me the right exhaust. Not that I'm complainin, I mean I love the exhaust but it's not what I asked for. Elite, I think you might have discovered or started somethin here.

Checked my exhaust and their MAGNAFLOWS, all four tips and the actual muffler have Magnaflow etched on 'em. I duno how much they retail for. I'm gonna call tomorrow and ask how much the Magnaflow install will cost and see if I got raped or got a deal and I'll go from there. As for the exhaust, I'm not complainin or mad I got what I didn't ask for. Cuz it sounds goooodddd!!! I'll update tomorrow. Can anyone photoshop and paint the grille and the black valence to match the rest of the car silver!?!? I'm curious to what'd it'd loook like.

Well, magnaflows cost at least twice of what those Lawson mufflers cost. So if you paid for the Lawsons and got Magnaflows, you got an awesome deal. If you got the magnaflows, and paid for the magnaflows, you really can't complain other then it cost more then the cheap mufflers.

Hey man Just wandering if you ever got pics or the soundclip to work. Also wanna know exactly which mufflers you got. I like the 14861 model but it seems like the tips might be a lil big. Im thinking about doing some nice dual tipped mufflers with a magnaflow resonator and high flow cat with new piping. Hopefully gain some power with it, or at least a lil.

To post sound clips, you would have to find someone to host them for you, and you would just give us the web address to them... the trick is finding someone to host them.

hey Glude, I actually have the magnaflow 14861 model just installed and I just love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here magnaflow 14861, or you can try one of the vendors selling magnaflow they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install. its worth it! Udpate us on which muffler you got
