Eibachs on stock struts?

Considering on lowering my max but skeptable to do it with stock struts. How long before the stock struts go and hows the ride? Is it worth it or just wait it out till aftermarket struts are made for the max

Stock struts aren't designed for lowering spring applications, I would wait till some are developed for the 6th gen, you will regret doing it again if you do it halfass

I ran Eibachs on stock struts in both my 4th gen and 5th gen Maximas for some time with no problems. I kept both cars long enough and, when it was time to replace them, I upgraded.

I think there's one person here in the 6th gen forum who has Eibachs on his -- hopefully, he will respond to this thread so we can see what his experience was.

If you're paying someone to do the install, you'll probably want to wait and do it all at once. If you can do it yourself, why wait?

Why do it halfass, do it the right way the first time, that way you won't have blown struts when you sell the car.....

Just saying...

That's some pretty strong language. Half-assed? I don't think there's anything half-assed about installing Eibach's on a brand new car with stock struts -- they'll hold up just fine, thank you.

I never blew a strut on my 4th gen or 5th gen, so I can't really relate to your last comment.

I stand by my initial response.

I am also waiting for the struts to come out.. In my opinion, springs on stocks I'll never do.. Especially because I don't install them myself.

Ive been on em for a few months and I couldnt be happier. Ride is better than stock IMO. No sign of the shocks getting weak or anything, rides wonderful. I would do it again if I had the option.

A black 2004 Maxima was on display at the LA Auto Show. It was lowered with 20 inch rim, 255X35X20 front tire and 275x30x20 rear tire. It had the Street Concepts sticker in the windshield. I'm waiting for the struts to come to get my car lowered. For labor alone the installer want $200 to $300 but if you can do it yourself, then do it now and wait for the aftermarket struts to come out to redo your suspension.

Wearing out and being designed to handle lowering springs are two different things. I repeat stock struts aren't valved to handle lowering springs, performance shocks are designed to handle lowering springs, lowering with stock shocks is half-assing it. You pay 26k+ for a car and won't do it right, that is your perspective....... Not mine. My maxima was lowered with H&Rs/Tokicos and it handled perfectly and I have lowered others with nice shocks. Those who had lowered with stock versus aftermarket weren't as happy with the results........

Your call, do it right or do it twice.....

I made the call. and when the time comes I will install the shocks. Why is that halfass? I had tokicos on my prelude and I can say that I will not put tokicos on my maxima. They were horrible.

I had great wear with my tokicos, you may have had too harsh of a spring on your lude and the tokicos are meant to be installed with mild lowering springs. I had my car dropped 1.25 with H&Rs, 35k miles and still rode perfect the day I sold it. So if you had the car slammed or with coilovers then tokicos prolly weren't your cup of tea......

I have an 04 with the Eibach kit with stock struts and it rides fine. I'm pretty new to this but I talked to quite a few people before I lowered and most said to replace them as soon as they come out. I haven't had any problems but when the struts come out I will replace them, my installer (friend) will do it practically for free so I felt no need to wait. I don't feel I half assed it, I'm just half way there...and happy

The only problem is who knows when the struts will come out.. They still don't have them available for the altima.. I called Tokico, KYB and they have no such ETA on the struts being made. This may take a while.

On my first 4th gen, I had H&R's with tokico's up front and stock rear strut's. Having it lowered for about a month, I thought it rode fine, but wasn't able to find out the long term affect of stock struts cause it was stolen. My second 4th gen i did it right and had progress and AGX's and I loved the ride (for a lowered car). I think both setups rode around the same. But I'm really hoping KYB makes them first cause IMO I think they are a little more forgiving. I'm skeptable with the Eibach's, not so much in the rear but a 2" drop on the front with stock struts doesn't sound to good. The stock struts are always gonna be under a constant load at a certain height which they weren't desinated for.
