2005 maxima
2005 maxima
I read a review somewhere that they are coming out with a twin turbo engine for 2005. Can anyone confirm this?
I really like the max and I'm interested in buying one but, I can wait one year if they are going to come out with the twin turbos. I'd really hate to get it now and find out next year that I should have waited.
Thanks for any info.

From what I have heard, the '05 Maxima will be bumped up to 280hp.

I know it did seem kinda weird that max would get turbo'd. Since Nissan hasn't offered it in the previous maxima's...it does make more sense in the Z. But, you never know so, I had to ask
I don't think it may eat G35 sales if they put an AWD Maxima. It probably would eat away Maxima's sales. Maxima is expensive to begin with on the top loaded SL model compared to the well equipped G35. What do you guys think?
Hmmm...they last turbo maxima was made back in like 88. And it wasn't offered in the states. Highly doubt the maxima will need turbos with highest rated VQ running 287hp. 280 is not to hard to obtain. Also they do need to compete with the Acura TL, which is also FWD and makes 270hp. Don't think 280hp is too big of an issue will for the maxima.

With the much-improved interior (and grille) Nissan has for the '05 Altima, 280 HP is almost the minimum we can expect in the '05 Maxima. And we may find out the HP might be greater than advertised.
I would be surprised with any form of turbo on the Maxima. The best use of turbo is on an engine that is not overly powerful (so as to get good MPGs), but might occasionally be called on for strong acceleration. The Saab is a perfect car for a turbo.

One additional thought on the turbo situation:
The Maxima already has enough power to spin the wheels if not driven carefully. Adding a turbo would give primarily more wheel-spinning ability. Not a constructive step, in my opinion.
If the Maxima were rear-wheel drive, or an AWD, the turbo might be more effective, though hardly needed.

turbo would be fun for us enthusiasts, but the overall market for Maximas wouldnt be interested in a 350 (speculating) horse power FWD car. Its not practical. Granted Pontiac just released the GTO, which I would love to get my hands on, and it would be in the price range, but I just cant see Nissan putting turbos on the Maxima. Definatly doesnt fit the Maxima image.
change that fugly orange non-nav screen for '05
one thing I'd like to see improved on the '05 Maxima is that fugly orange non-nav screen. I'd say make the whole display dot-matrix or like a mini-pc screen For example if the screen was like a mini-pc, whenever you start the car the display can have the nissan logo and the word driven underneath, or the maxima text &/or a pic of the car. One thing though, the display's gotta have more colors to the text & background (yellow text & animated symbols for less critical items like low washer fluid, door(s) open & service reminder symboled by a wrench, red text & symbols for more critical items) and make it a real info./message center that shows miles to maintenance intervals, functions of trip computer, and stereo/climate control readouts
