Sorry, NEW '04 Maxima complaints

Nav screen issues (dust/finger prints)
Headlight issue (not sure on this one saw a post someone said they had probs)

All this from a 30K+ car

So do I get the 04 or wait until Sept for the 05
Oh, I would definately wait until '05

I have an '04 and have a couple of complaints:

When I drive down the freeway, I can hear the 18 wheelers driving by me, I don't understand it, there IS one pane of glass between me and them.

When I start my car, it is not hot yet and when I turn on the heater, cold air comes out.

When I touch the navigation screen, fingerprints get on it! After a month of not washing my car, it's dirty, the new Max sucks!

When I drive on uneven, potholed pavement, my 04 Max bounces.

I bought an SE, yet I feel MORE road inperfections than an SL.

I try to drag race 390hp SVT Mustangs with my 265hp car and get beat.

I try to use my 3400lb FWD car to out handle Corvettes and get beat.

I drive behind gravel trucks everyday, but my paint is chipped, DAMN NISSAN!!!

I paid $27K and change for my luxury car, yet a $100+K Mercedes has a better interior than my car, why did Nissan skimp on the interior?

I hate the "tooth" grill on the front of my car, I didn't see it until AFTER I bought it!

My "TURNing lights" only come on when I am using my TURN signal and making a TURN.

I didn't want to pay for HIDs, but the new Acura TLs look better than my Max, they have HIDs!

I bought my car, not because I like it, but because I was trying to impress my friends. And guess what, they don't like it, I'm crushed.

The worst is:

I go onto forums and ask people what they think about the performance/value/aethetics of my 04 Max, and when they don't agree with me, I get upset!

For the record NONE of those are/were my concerns.

So how do you like your max?

What I really love is that you Nissan fanatics think that we should be happy that we own one and are now a part of an elite club and should be quite happy with poor quality and workmanship, horrendous depreciation and quite possibly the worst customer relations in the entire universe.

For us:
3 recalls (once was taken in and a month later they send me a letter telling me that urgent repairs to the lower control arms had not yet performed on the car, I explained they had already done it and they replied we didn't have the parts when you brought it in the first time and oops, we forgot to tell you, I assumed it was done
4 Bose head units (took nine months to fix)
New tires at 24,000 miles (Potenzas had plenty of tread, but dangerous)
Paint is chipped (100 or so in 26,000 miles, none from gravel trucks, sorry, our 96 SHO had two or three in 75,000 miles over the same roads)
Failed O2 sensors
Brake issues (vibrations, rotors not warped, but build-up from pads)
Dealership service that defies belief (current issue is waiting on parts for TSB since October, each time - 3 times, I call they tell me "we have never ordered the parts, I will personally take care of that now and call you" - still waiting

The car is 26 months old and has 26,000 miles which the Nissan service manager explained that "It is no wonder your brakes are worn out (they're only half way) and you have so many paint chips, that is a lot of miles on a 2002 Maxima". I was shocked

If you guys find this acceptable on this type of car, you need to get out more. I would not tolerate this on a $10,000 Kia.

I agree there are issues that people list are ridiculous, but I here comments why are you complaining about, all cars have some issues. The fingerprints on the Navigation unit is one, complaining about rough riding sports cars are fair game.

Hmmm, close but no cigarette. I try VERY hard not to drive behind ANYTHING (because the paint chips if a fly farts on it).

Its a legitimate beef. I should be able to drive in EVERYDAY conditions w/o having to worry about damaging my vehicle. Not talking about tailgating a semi or down gravel roads every day.

Why dont you add the less than stellar service departments that cant figure out their heads from their asses?

So, you're assuming that all of us "Nissan fanatics" have had the same issues with our cars as you? If I did have the same issues, I would be pretty ticked, too. However, I'm sure that your experience is the exception to the rule.

First off, I have NO real complaints of my '04.

Second, ALL cars get chips in the front section. Especially any built after the early 80s, when they changed paint formulas to be more environmentally friendly. It really ****es me off, so I shelled out the $600 and had a transparent bra put on right after I got my car. http://www.envisagelab.com/page/page/240730.htm I am completely satisfied with it and surprised more people don't buy them.

I am not a 'Nissan guy'. I, honestly, have had no bad experiences with anyone from Nissan.

This post was just trying to point out that any car, wait, any product made by any company, will have compromised something. You should check out the TL forum. http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=64458 those guys complain about their cars for hours. I guess that Honda is supposed to be infallible.

What I find amusing is that if you hate a product, why go onto a forum of enthusiasts of that product. Those people are inherently biased towards that product, and, in their eyes, it is perfect. There is nothing wrong with loving your car and overlooking its faults. I hate canned SPAM, but I don't go onto the SPAM forum and bash it!

No, never made that assumption, although based on what is on most message boards, there are a lot of people that are having these and similar issues so I would never label this an exception.

The recalls affect all of the owners, the general consensus is that the dealer and Nissan service network is horrendous and that the common suggestion is to keep searching until you find one that is good. To add even more light to the subject, our local Nissan dealership also has other brands and when I take that vehicle in (it is rare that I am there with the other brand) I have none of the issues I have with the Nissan side.

The Bose head unit and brake problems are extremely wide spread (TSBs were issued which indicates an epedemic)

The paint issues are also to the point there is a class action lawsuit pending which indicates, again a large number of people are having issues.

Finally the deprciation (appprox. 50% in two years) also affects every owner and is a pretty good indicator there are some severe quality related issues because it means that the buyers are not willing to pay for the product and the owners of said product will take the lower prices to get rid of them. I know I would.

Essentially what I was trying to say is that the originator of this post (and a few others), who is entitled to his own opinion, was trying to imply that there were no real issues and that all of the complaints were the result of ignorance about the intended application of the vehicle.

Let me conclude that I love the performance of the car (I would prefer rear wheel drive, hello Infiniti) and if we had not have the problems I would be a Nissan fanatic as well. The only close friends of ours that have one also have had similar issues and it was nearly returned under the Kentucky Lemon Law statutes until a suitable repair was finally made (six speed with clutch issues).

We may try an Infiniti G35X next, but since the parent company is the same I will have to think long and hard about that.

Ah...now you have approached a REAL issue with Nissan. Good dealer service is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find. If you got good service:

1) You are lucky
2) Would make most small minor annoyances go away w/o much of a thought.

I have had MORE damage done to my car at a dealer than when it was in my OWN possesion. They did over 1K worth of damage to my interior and tried to pass it off. Until I showed them my digi pics taken in their lot the day of service. That kind of UTTER BS should NOT happen at any dealership. Granted you have good and bad dealers...but the "bad" seems to be the norm with Nissan, and no real corrective action is being taken. Do a search on all the complaints with NNA for LEGITIMATE problems (Not like people running 100 shot of N20 or drag racing all the time...). Its not sparkling thats for sure.

As for the paint comment after 1980. Ask any 3rd genner to put his/her paint up to a 5th Genner...I bet that would put shame to your comment. Chips wise.

Also, my wife has a 02 Focus (lower slung hood as well as wide plastic paint front area) and we travel the SAME road (minus about 4-5 miles) and hers has MUCH better resilence. AND it has about 10K MORE miles on it. Sorry, its a cop out to expect chips at this rate. Nissan put **** paint on their cars since 00. Period. And I do have the 3M protection on the hood and bumper and mirrors.

The one thing I've noticed in this thread is that the majority of people who are complaining don't even own a 6th gen. HMMM. Now, I won't say mine was perfect, but the two dealers that I have dealt with have taken care of me and all my problems were superficial. BTW, I too have 3M paint protection on my car with ~20k miles now. Several long trips at high speeds and no ding issues with the paint. My only scratch is from my class ring. Overall, I love the car and can't really complain much.

NNA isn't last as a whole. If you separate the Infinity and Nissan brands you can see which is dragging which up or down, depending on your preference and the year.

Look at the dealer's satisfaction.

The only one that I am aware of is for the 2002 and 2003 models. I don't think the 6th generation are having the same issues, at least I hope not.

Infiniti beats Nissan 5% in 2003, 7% in '02.

I didn't know that the 04 Maxima is ranked 1st in class.

What does it mean when Kia scores 509 in the VDS but is #7 in dealer satisfaction, ahead of Infiniti and Acura?

Maybe there's free blow in the service waiting room?

It means the cars are POSs but the warranty and the service people get the POSs back on the road fast enough not to p!ss the owners off. But who knows, maybe the secret warranty does include happy ends.
