There are various option packages with each of these vehicles. As an example, msrp on the Maxima ranges from $27,000 to over $36,000 depending on model, options, etc. Depending on the dealer, location, etc, you should be able to get at least $1000 off msrp, and possibly around $2000 off in some cases.

With generation 6 (2004), the Maxima has moved up to the 'near luxury' class, and will cost more than comparably equipped Altimas and Camrys. I personally feel the '04 Maxima is a LOT more car than the '04 Altima, and a LOT more exciting than the '04 Camry. You might want to consider the '05 Altima (will be out shortly), which is improved over the '04 in many ways, but will still go for well under the price of a Maxima.

Why you would pay that much for a Max , when you can get a G35 with a better warranty and service....., Rear wheel drive etc.....is beyond me. The G35 is a complete drivers vehicle......

It depend on how much you are willing to pay for your ride. The maxima compare to the altima and the camry is way better. Go and test drive all three and see for yourself.

Thanks for all the info....

Im lookin to spend less than $25,000, so Altima and Camry are my options, Ive really enjoyed my maxima, and the Altima seems to be almost as fun to drive as 2000 maxima. Although the camry may be a tad better with realibilty and quietness, overall the Altima is a great value....I'll see how low I can get the Nissan and Toyota dealers to go pricewise...haha

What are the major differences in the 2005 altima? I see a new grille...anything else?

kloogy - I looked long and hard at the G35. It is a fine car, without question. But I did not particularly like the interior finish, found the interior not quite as roomy as the Maxima, did not find the folks at the local Infinity dealer any easier to work with than my friends at the Nissan dealer, and was not given as big a discount as Nissan offered.

Consumer Reports, for different reasons than I listed, also rated the Maxima as better than the G35. Each person has different needs and a different style of driving.

I also have a strong preference for front wheel drive, as it seems to do better on wet roads, on icy roads, and in snow. The G35 can now be obtained with AWD, but not at Maxima prices.

To each his own . . .

frack - I don't have the specs in front of me, but several posters here have said the '05 Altima is much improved over the '04. You might try getting the '04 and '05 Altima brochures from the dealer and examining them very closely. Also, the car mags will be reviewing the '05 very shortly (some may already have done so), and you can access them online free.

The Altima and the Max are very different cars when it comes to comforts and quality. If you are looking to save some $$, go with the Altima. If you want all the comforts of home, get the Max.

If you want a car designed by morons, sit in a G35.

You might consider the Honda Accord V6 also. I think all 3 of those cars together are very nice and each of them offers something a little bit different. Just another car to consider. Check out www.v6performance.net if you're curious about it.

www.nissannews.com has all the details.

Restyled wheels, there's now a 3.5SL model, revised exterior, heavily revised and upgraded interior, new guages, the auto is now the 5spd and not the old 4spd. There's a full manumatic mode on the auto also, not a gated shifter. "claimed" power is a bit higher, but is probably about the same as before.

Well he's driving a 2002 Maxima, wasn't the G35 the hottest thing going in 2002? It begs the question.

I believe that it is possible to get the 2004 maximas at BELOW invoice price. I was able to ****er and haggle for 6 hours when I bought my max back in july of 2002 as the 2003 model year, I managed to knock off 4200 msrp, and that car was loaded.
I don't see why you can't do it with the 2004 models. It's not selling as well as they hoped.
You can probably get a 3.5 altima for 24k and get a loaded max for about 28k.

Mine was below invoice, purchased in May '03.

04 altima- at least $2K under invoice!
04 max- not a penny over invoice.
05 altima- invoice. (new grille, lights up front and back, new interior, wheels, etc.) 04 is a steal right now.

edmunds.com

talk only to the internet manager and give him/her an offer as described above and you will get them to agree if you are a serious buyer.

I hate to break it to you, but a loaded 04 Max has an MSRP of 38K, even if you are Donald Trump, you aren't haggling them down to 28K.

Invoice, or a bit below is a definite reality, 6K below invoice, I don't think so.

Have you sat in it and/or driven it? It is ergonomically the worst car (besides a VW Bug) that I have ever driven. There are a lot of things that were an after thought in that car. The comfort and ergonomics of the controls being the biggest.

Yeah I was talking about when I bought a 2003 model. I am guessing you can get at the most 1500 under invoice. At the same time, I really don't see how anyone can pay 38k for a maxima. Wasn't people paying OVER msrp for the maxima when it first debuted?
