Tire Pressure monitoring on the SE?

hi all:

Just a quick question. Does the SE have an option for monitoring the tire pressure on all four wheels? Or does that come with a special package only. My mom's Murano has this feature and now I'm envious. Hoping it's on my Max, but thus far, I haven't been able to find it...

any ideas?

Thanks!

CanadianMoFo is correct. Unfortunately, this "integrated" feature is not currently available for the MAX...05's maybe???

BUT...and I cringe when I say this, but...I believe the G35 offers it as an option. Or is it the Cadillac CTS-V I'm thinking of...??? Anyway, I'm sure the G35 crowd will gladly fill in the blanks...

I saw it listed as an option somewhere. I saw it had 4 leds on the dash. I own some stock in that company and think it will take off someday. It's called smartire, ticker smtr and is trading at only .11 cents right now.

The lack of a TPMS is a pet peeve of mine.

The bean counters at Nissan blundered big time on this IMHO.

Since NHTSA is going to REQUIRE it shortly on ALL passenger vehicles and it is already included on the Murano, a TPMS should have been a simple matter to include it on the Maxima - their "Flagship."

As far as I am concerned, this is right up there with the following design flaws:

1. Inexcusably S L O W seat heaters (somewhat offset by the QUICK steering wheel heat)
2. Unlit steering wheel controls
3. Inability to have unwarmed outside air enter the cabin
4. "Too busy" ride of the SE (for my taste)
5. Option to have the doors auto-lock when underway and auto-unlock when placing shifter into "park."
6. Pseudo "SportShift" auto

Not for the Maxima though... It's not available for the MAX yet...

I would agree w/ you on the above. They also kinda flubbed w/ their initial production w/o the SAT radio prewire--what was up w/ that? But they definitely should offer more features/options for their "flagship" car...

Yes, but a year ago, it was 25 cents a share, wasn't it?

The tires are the only thing between a moving Maxima and oblivion.

When I am riding down the highway and things suddenly feel differently, I sometimes have difficulty determining whether the pavement surface changed, or I have entered a section of grooving, or a tracked work vehicle has been on the pavement and cut notches, or whether I have a flat.

I find myself slowing down, looking around the inside of the car, trying to determine if one corner looks an inch or two low.

A low tire pressure system will become mandatory in a few years, but it would be a reasonable and useful feature for Nissan to include in the 'changeover' package which will be used to differentiate the '05 from the essentially same '04.

Count me as one who would not only appreciate a 'low tire pressure' warning, but would gladly pay for an advanced system that shows the exact pressure in each tire.

I believe the Murano's system is with the runflat tires. I am not positive about that, but pretty sure... And the NHTSA does require all runflats to have TPMSs installed.

yes, that's why .11 is good. can't see it going much lower. If the tread act had been passed making it mandatory I think it can hit .75 to $1. The automakers fought to block it trying to use a cheaper method which only tells you a tire is low, but doesn't say which one or by how much.

Yeah, I've driven some Impala's have that system. It seems to come on at random times. It's absolute junk. It has so many false warnings nobody pays attention to it.

Is it possible to add this to the Maxima, or is this something that has to be done at the factory?

Thanks!

kms007 did you click on the link at all?

It's an aftermarket system that is being sold by a Nissan dealer. You can have it installed on just about any vehicle. Bear in mind that you will have to have your tires removed from the rims to get the pressure sensors mounted inside.

I just check my pressure with a digital guage while the minimum wage gas monkey is filling my car up. Digital pressure guage, accurate to +-.5psi = $5.

You could get those visual pressure guages that screw on as valve caps. But they are easy to steal so that is a downside. I got them for my mother who constantly runs tires flat. She's not had a problem since.

Once again...this is not an available option for the MAX as of yet (thus, it's not installed @ the factory)... BUT, since it's being advertised on a Nissan parts site, it can probably be installed as an aftermarket product @ your dealer. You will need to call you parts/svc dept to get the details... Hope this clarifies...
