Cracked windshield
Cracked windshield
Well, a small day trip I was traveling on the interstate and a rock got the very bottom of my windsheild (in the 'black dotted' area). I must have been going about 85-90 when it hit me, and it was a very loud 'thud'. I didn't notice anything at the time, but a few hours later I saw some refraction from the windshield
. Over the next couple of hours it continued to grow too, until it reached about 12 inches or so. When I checked it, it felt like some of the glass was missing from the surface of the windshield. Also, it has started to spider in a third direction as well (although only about half an inch or so). I guess its time for a new windshield? How much do they cost? I remember someone having theirs shatter and it only cost them a few hundred bucks or so, but I wasn't sure if they replaced theirs with another Nissan windshield or not. I know insurance should cover this but my deductible isn't $0 either...
Thanks for any help!

I'm no expert, but once the crack has begun radiating out from the tiny crater, it may be too late for a normal windshield 'pit fill' type repair.
There was a post here just a couple days ago where the windshield on an '04 was replaced for $200 and it took one hour. I con't recall if he used a Nissan dealer.
I would think it may be difficult to match either that price or the amount of time required.

I have had a small star crack repaired on my windshield. It spread out about 1/2 an inch after the repair and has held up through the winter without expanding.
I'd try to find a place with the lowest priced windshield. Then get them to repair just the star. Usually if the repair doesn't work a windshield place will knock the price of their repair off the new windshield.
