Wished SkyView opened.

I wish the SkyView opened up on the Max, I am getting tired of people asking, How does it open. have to say sorry it doesn't open.

I Kinda wish it slid open, maybe in the future they might.

Anyone else getting this question?

That's why I went with the power sun roof, that opens. But I do like the window portion in the back seat area.

i'm with you. Every time someone gets in my car, they say "How does this thing open?" I have to say, it doesn't. Then we go through this long conversation about possible ways it could open. They could slide to the sides, or maybe only the front one could open. It really sucks. Maybe, the 05s or 06s will incorporate this feature, unfortunately we would have to trade in our 04s to get it. I think a retrofit, if possible, would be very expensive. Until then we will have just what they called it "a SKY VIEW".

Sometimes you can't have it all.
I'd be about structural integrity if it did open. Besides there have already been reports of shattering SKyviews.

Well, what's the point right. A friend of mine got the skyview because he likes the view above him but he didn't like to open it when on long trips. The wind noise drove him nuts so he had to close it on his previous max. So he says what's the point on having a sun roof that opens but can't use it because of wind noise. So he thinks he got best of both worlds. I don't. I like the power sun roof.

Sunroof would have been nice but I needed the headroom you gain by not having the sunroof

I do get lots of "how does it open?"

Head room? i would think theres more, plus your head could stick out the sunroof. I'm 6'6 and there is plenty of room, hell its been the most comfortable car, space wise.

Actually the sunroof takes almost 2" of headroom. I am not as tall as you are but my height is in my torso...so I have headroom issues in many cars.

I love my Max....

i wanted the skyview becuase no other car had it (think malibu has it, but not as cool), but its not as cool as a sunroof (coudn't afford it anyways tho) since your not really looking up when your driving unless your crazy and you dont get the air flow and you dont have to tell people it dosnt open.

I'm with you on that, I won't trade in my Radiant Ember Monster either. Besides I have two small boys who love the skyview from the backseat.

This subject has been sort of on my mind since the first time I saw the pics (Dec 5th, 2002) of the '04 skyroof.

When you look at where it is, and where an opening roof would have to have room to slide to, it is fairly clear we won't have an opening skyroof. Certainly not with the current pattern; just not enough room.

A roof that opens to the side is not ideal, at any rate.

One possibility would be to have a power sunroof of normal (or slightly greater) width, but one which would be twice as long from front to rear. When closed (but with the inner sunscreen open), it would sort of serve as a big skyroof. When open, it could be opened slightly, or a foot or so, or, if not driving too fast in nice weather, open the sucker all the way and have sort of a 'semi-convertible'.

This might be feasable in a car with a fairly flat roof, but might not work in the highly arched roof of the '04 Maxima.

At any rate, torsional stress, as well as overall structural integrity would have to be dealt with very carefully.

I used to get the same question with my last car. I had an eagle talon that was red but had a black glass looking roof and people would ask does it open. Now I have to tell people that it's a standard feature and you'd have to pay extra to get an opening sunroof. I had a sunroof in my supra, 2 cars ago and never used it.

I believe Porsche offered this in the Carrera some time ago. As far as a sunroof, I've had one in other cars, including an '00 TL. Between the wind noise and my hair gettng sucked up, I didn't use it that often.

Where I am I rarely open my sunroof, because I can't take the beating heat of the sun on me. Most use I get out of sunroofs is in the wintertime and not really much then either. Even so, it is just one of those things that I feel like I must have. I do think those skyviews are pretty cool though, even if they don't open.

I always insist on having a sunroof but I never open them. I just like the light and the "openness" a sunroof provides.

Here in Texas, it's usually either too hot or too cold to actually have it open while driving, and as others have pointed out the wind whistles around when that sucker's rolled back. Btw, I finally opened the Max's sunroof the other day (after 7 months of ownership) just to make sure it worked. I was in the garage, and I immediately closed it back.

You don't think they're shattering on their own, do you?? It's all the newbs trying too hard to open them!

I like the skyview and mostly only open
the slider at night or on rainy days. My old sunroof (when open)was noisy and hot.

There is definitely no need to bump 3 threads making the same post. Especially one from 2004
