Bose Stereo components? (Basic question)

Sorry for this basic question, and I know there are a lot of very experienced audio experts on this site, but, what are the audio components in the Max and in what order are they all hooked together?

Is there a separate final amp from the head unit to give the '320' watts of audio output?

Are there spare inputs? Outputs?

I am trying to visualize the entire system from what has been posted, but I haven't seen a simple overview yet...

Need Lightonthehill or Mike_Tx type of reply to simplify things....

Any help you can provide - thanks.....

There's someone on here that owns an autosound shop. I think his screen name is rabenoja or sometihng like that. He would probably be able to help you as well.

I believe the Bose system works with individual amps at each speaker location, powering the individual speakers. The only additional input I know of is for the satellite radio. If you are looking to do anything to the stereo, here's what I've done and how I did it:

Adding an amp/sub: gotta tap into the speaker line to the Bose subs (rear deck speakers) to plug into the amp. Mine sounded fine, though I recently replaced the whole Bose stereo with an aftermarket Clarion, and the subs sound SOOO much better now that they are wired straight into the head unit.

Adding mp3 player/cd changer: Gotta go the FM modulator route, since the Bose unit has no extra input (though someone on here I think was working on an adapter to utilize the sat input for RCA inputs)

The Bose system has two 1-1/2" tweeters located by the mirrors, 6-1/2" speakers in each of the four doors, and two 8" subwoofers in the rear deck. The EQ is provided through the digital amp located on the rear deck. The subs recieve additional power thru a 100 watt switching amp located on the passenger side sub.

There are no Bose provided inputs into the system. They don't have separate amps for each speaker. The head unit is supplied by either Clarion or Panasonic (can't recall offhand). The 8" speakers are called subs because they produce audio in the sub-bass range (box not required to do this, but it can help add punchyness to sub-bass).

Adding a subwoofer box has been shown to improve bass response and there are threads on this forum that explain how to do this.

Jaydabee, thanks for the correction. So if one were to replace all the speakers in the car and upgrade the amp, they should technically be able to just swap out the speakers and the amp, and not have to rewire everything, correct? Would an aftermarket amp be able to be placed where the current factory one is below the rear deck? I havent taken a ton of time to look up under there to see exactly where it is, and its size.

I wouldn't bother to replace the tweeters, but yes the wiring will work as is for replacment speakers. The Bose amp is about 10" x 8" x 2.5". If you don't have an XM or Sirrius reciever installed on the rear deck next to the amp you will have room for a bigger one.

Im not planning to replace anything anytime soon, its just good to know if I ever do, it's not too difficult. With my new head unit, the Bose speakers sound a lot better as is. They did install the Sirius tuner up in the rear deck though. It was suggested to me that if I ever did replace speakers, to replace the front tweeters and move the factory tweeters to someplace in the back, maybe the door pillars, to face the rear passengers. Have you heard of people doing that?

Which HU did you get? Also, I guess the Sirius tuner is an aftermarket one and not the Nissan/Infinity OEM version (otherwise it wouldn't work with the new HU, right)?

I got a Clarion HU with an aftermarket tuner, although since the factory tuner is also Clarion, it probably would work, but I got the tuner for free when I purchased the headunit, so I'm happy... pics are at:
